I am a sufferer of depression and GAD. After 20 years of suffering with undiagnosed GAD (to be fair to the medical profession, it wasn't in the DSM back then) I stumbled upon Aropax following a bout of depression. Having had the therapy I badly needed at the time, I came good and did well on Aropax for 11 years. Last year I started having difficulty with sleeping and thought I was suffering the poop out effect, so I switched to Lexapro. A few months later I realised it was causing me more problems than it was solving so my GP agreed to give me a referral to a psychiatrist - so we could work out the best medicine for me. Nearly 3 weeks on Cymbalta and I've stopped already. I've had restlessness, increased insomnia (I now recognise that there is more to that), an inability to concentrate (the opposite of the real me) and nausea. I want to converse with others who are going through the same issues with medication.

Hi Melanie

Sorry you've had such a rough time but there is light at the end of the tunnel. YES,you CAN get off Cymbalta but, given the intensity of your reaction after just a few days off, it will take quite some time. The way to do is to wean slowly - 10% of your current dose each time and wait 3-6 weeks to stabilise between drops. This will mean opening the capsules and emptying out some of the beads. NurseDeborah can give you the bead count.

Also, many people find taking Prozac during withdrawal helps with many of the wld effects. Because it has a long half life, it is said to be easier to get off later.

Good luck

I want to help others on weaning off cymbalta as I was able to do it in five days successfully with the help of my doctor.

I went to my doctor on Friday, Feb. 11 as I was determined to get off Cymbalta 60mg. Dr. told me to throw out Cymbalta pills and follow these guidelines (my dr got this method from a psychiatrist).

1) Stop Cymbalta
2) Start Prozac 20 mg (actually I got the generic $4 Prozac from Target pharmacy) -- take two 20mg pills on Saturday (take pills together = 40mg)
3) Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - take one 20mg Prozac a day
4) Nothing on Thursday (which is today)!

I can't tell you how easy this was. The hardest part was throwing the Cymbalta pills away! I do/did not have any brain zaps, dizziness, nausea, and the like.

Trust me, this method really works!
