To research why I'm currently in a hypomanic episode after quitting Cymbalta. I've never been diagnosed as being bipolar. No matter what i've told various primary care providers and 1 psychiatrist over the past 12 years, they all said I was suffering from depression. However, is it possible that Im actually Bipolar II?

I was having all kinds of severe pain. Doctors couldn't prove it was fibromyalgia because I didn't have the tender points. I was put on cymbalta and think the pain was getting worst. Was given 800 mg ibuprophen and tylenol 4s. Didn't help the paid.Besides all over pain I had a lower back ache I could hardly deal with anymore. Also my right hand was killing me. Had back xrays, nuclear bone scan, and a hand xray. Nothing. I then decided I had had it with cymbalta, for various reasons, and quit it cold turkey 5 1/2 weeks ago. Horrible withdrawal, still side effects showing up. However, when the withdrawal really it after the first week, I was deathly ill for two weeks non-stop. However, and here's the kicker, I realized that all my pains have stopped. I'm pretty much pain free. However, I'm now having a hypomanic episode and also can't sleep. I don't know if you have to have a bipolar disorder to have a hypomanic episode. I'm going to a psychiatrist the day after tomorrow.

Was on Cymbalta 60mg. about 3 yrs. Stopped c/t when I lost my ins. Horrible w/d. Now back on and weaning slowly. Still suffering. Looking for help from people who have been there. Been tapering for 2 months, and down about 9 mg.

Hi Curious,

I was prescribed Cymbalta as part of my treatment for Lyme Disease. At the time, I had no

depression, no anxiety, and no pain. About 2 years into treatment, I developed joint pain.

Of course, I assumed it was the lyme disease. I finished my lyme treatment in Aug. 2009,

but remained on the Cymbalta. In Dec. 2009, I stopped the Cymbalta cold turkey. I was

very sick, but realized all my joint pain had disappeared. I reinstated the Cymbalta,

and I'm now doing a slow taper off. And....the joint pain returned with reinstatement.

So, now I realize it was never the lyme causing my pain, but the Cymbalta.

Doctor has given me prescription for Cymbalta

Posted 15 December 2010 - 09:32 PM

I was on antidepressants for nearly 12 years for fibromyalgia, I also had breast cancer and was on tamoxafin and then after five years another anti cancer drug. Along with whatever my GP decided I needed for something or other (why do docs think they have to write a prescription everytime you see them?)

Anyway I had heart failure 4 years ago and was told I have an enlarged heart. I think that all of the meds mixed together caused it as there is not any heart conditions in my family.

I told my docs that I was quitting all these meds and only taking heart medication. My fibro. doc I asked to just give me a pain pill. I have been taking Darvocet ever since and now the FDA has decided to take it off the market. My heart by the way is back to normal. (so much for Darvocet causing heart problems)

I have today been put on Cymbalta 20mg but after reading this forum I have decided not to take it.

I still have some darvocet left, will take for a couple of days then tell the doc. I want to be on Norco (which he suggested)

Darvocet was great for my fibro pain.

I am weaning myself off of cymbalta

As you know from the ads all over TV, cymbalta is now one of only 2 drugs approved to treat Fibromyalgia. I was prescribed cymbalta soon after it came on the market, and soon also became diagnosed with fibro. After years of treatment, increased doses, and problems, I finally stopped taking cymbalta - only to discover that my fibro symptoms have nearly disappeared. I am worried that this drug may actually be worsening the epidemic of fibromyalgia, rather than helping it. It would really help me to know how other people are faring on (or off) the drug?

For example:

~ Were you prescribed cymbalta for symptoms of fibromyalgia? (These include widespread pain in the muscles and joints with no associated inflammation or other clear cause, as well as unexplained headaches, which are the symptoms my doctor first targeted with the drug)

~ If so, have your fibro symptoms improved or gotten worse while taking cymbalta?

~ Have you developed any new symptoms while taking cymbalta?

~ If you were prescribed cymbalta for depression, has your mood improved while on the cymbalta?

My sincere gratitude to anyone willing to share your own experiences here!

I have had fibro for a while and cymbalta did help somewhat.actually cymbalta did give me a happier self. HOWEVER, at what price? The drug did help with the pain and seemed to help with sleeping problems. It did help with the severe depression and anxiety I was experiencing.
I have various fibro symptoms like muscle cramping and random charlie horses in my thighs and back. Sometimes I wake up and feel as though I have been hit by a mack truck. When I flare up like that, I get very depressed because having this syndrome seems like a life sentence, and at my age I don't want to feel sick, tired or in pain of various degrees EVERYDAY. Cymbalta messed with my blood pressure to a dangerous level and I must wean and I have decreased my dosage. I just want to feel good and not hurt anymore. sigh. Cymbalta helped me when I needed it most.

In the future I would like to stop cymbalta

Posted 23 December 2010 - 12:14 AM

I took cymb. for major Depression not Fibro. It did help me initially with my mood to some extent. But after a while, it stopped working for me. I started weaning slowly and began having new physical symptoms. I am having joint pains, knee pain, headaches, high blood pressure which I didn´t have prior to the drug.
