In the future I would like to stop cymbalta

Hello Nikki:

I had never heard of a person taking such a high dosage (180mg). I took 60mg for 5 years. There was a period in which my doctor increased to 90mg, in my case, this higher dosage didn´t bring any additional benefits, it only brought me additional side effects one of them was mania.

These kind of meds, shouldn´t be stopped abruptly, moreover coming from such a high dosage. Imagine, your brain has been used to a certain dosage everyday for a year, and suddenly you stop cold turkey.

I am not a doctor, I only talk based on my own experience. I´ve been weaning very slowly making very small drops. And yes, I´ve had several withdrawal symptoms but I have been able to function. I do not know if I am going to suffer full withdrawals once I am down to 0mg, but I feel that things would have been tougher if I didn´t wean.

What has your doctor said???? It is important to have doctor´s supervisión when quitting these kind of meds.

If symptoms get very horrible, you could consider going back to a certain dosage of cymbalta in which you feel well and start weaning from there.

If you quit cold turkey while on any strong medicine (especially such a high dose) you are shocking your body. Therefore, shaking uncontrollably would make complete sense. This probably wasn't a good idea on your part, but at the same time, I understand that when you want to stop taking a medication, it is hard to be patient. I was on 60mg and I weaned off for 2 months, and still have VERY brutal side effects. I can only imagine that for you the side effects would be x10!

The actual Cymbalta website says to talk with your doctor BEFORE stopping this drug so that he/she can help you wean off it slowly. If I were you, I would call your doctor right away and see if there is any way they can help you get through this easier. Good luck! Rachael

Just a few days ago I quit taking Cymbalta (60 mg) cold turkey, and I'm also experiencing the uncontrollable shaking you're talking about. I have also been having a lot of problems with anxiety since stopping the medication, and I think the shaking may be related to that, but I definitely think it's a symptom of the Cymbalta withdrawal. Let me know if you find anything that helps with the shaking. I really do understand what you're going through and wish you the best of luck!

Dear Haley:
Quitting cold turkey from such a high dosage, brings your body and brain into shock. I have been weaning very slowly and have had withdrawals but not to the point of having uncontrollable shaking. I can´t imagine what would have been like to stop altogether at 60mg. Remember cymb comes in 30mg and 20mg presentations.
