Hey, so I decided to join and post on this forum for one reason. All the crap I read on the internet and various forums scared the hell out of me.

After reading a lot of different stuff and being on Cymbalta for around 18 months. I decided it was time to get it off it. So one tuesday night just recently I stopped taking my nightly pill. By Friday I was feeling sooooo bad. My head was constantly dizzy, I felt sick and was getting the notorious brain Zaps. I could barely stand on my feet for more than 3mins and I was feeling pretty sorry for myself.
I looked up more stuff about cymbalta and how it long it would last and the more I read the more I was scared that I wouldn't get better.

Anyways, I'm here to tell everyone that don't let everything everyone writes on here scare you. It is now 9 days since I stopped taking the drug, While I feel a little weird still and a tiny bit unwell, I'm over the worst of it. BRAIN ZAPS have almost gone... (yes they do go away) All you have to do is simply suffer through it for a week. And then you'll start feeling better. If you have someone to look after you. Great. If not get some quick and easy stuff to make to eat cause you really do need to eat while going through it.. It really does help. When your organised. (Get some days of work. cause you'll need it) At least a week!

And get ready for the pain. If you do work and are getting a week off. Stop taking it on say the wednesday night. Then you'll feel a bit crappy on friday but still be able to work. That way you'll have a good 9 days of withrawal before having to go back to work.

You'll feel crap. You'll start to wonder if your ever going to get better. But trust me you will. And you'll be glad you did it. Don't go through all the crap that people do and ween off it. I say F-That Just get it over and done with. 1 week of hell is far better than 6 months of feeling like shit trying to slowly ween off a drug that your doctor should never of given you in the first place. It really isn't that bad.

Just do yourself a favor and get off the crap. :-) Hope my Post helps to get rid of some peoples fear that have no doubt been fueled by some of the stuff people say on forums like these.

Good luck with it :-)

Well done for being off this crap for 9 days. I'd be interested to hear how you are feeling in say, 3 months time and if the zaps come back sporadically at all or you experience any hypermanic episodes. Everyone has a slightly different reaction, some make it, others don't. The best of luck to you!

i been on 8mgs for over a week and before that i slowly weaned for two months to get to this point. I had a few decent days, the zaps are gone, the majority of the mind altering effects as well, but i still have problems with anxiety higher than normal, waking up with numb lips and hands. marked sensations of unreality and fuzzyness. Slight buzzing all over. Its hell but im doin it and im working out daily, lifting, walking, dieting and just refusing to sit! Every now and then i get a day of total exhaustion and dont get out of bed. I stay up 20 or so hours followed by micro naps some days and passing out for over 12 hours on others. The tightness in my throat and neck is gone for the first time in days and the neck pain is gone too. i know i have a long way to go. I dont recomend going cold turkey. I tried twice and failed twice! And i quit ciggerettes! I have a strong will. And thats what it takes to drop this garbage!

Thank you so much , your words make sense. I am cold turkey day 6 and have flu like symptoms without the flu, fatigue, headache, lethargy, shunting feeling in my head, cold, but music is helping heaps, and having lots of baths and sleeping. I have been off from my work for last 2 days after trying to go in which was so silly. I know I will get through this, it was change, it will get better .... if I had ever known the discontinuation was going to be like this .....WOW :(

Just a quick update: I'm almost 6 weeks off this muck and I'm feeling a LOT better. Brain zaps are definitely getting better and only seem to hit me when I'm tired or getting up in the morning, so still a bit dizzy & feel the floor moving about sometimes - like being on a boat. Have had some rapid cycling & outbursts of aggression, nasty thoughts, but emotions are coming back - feeling tearful is something new as I'd become numb & grey on this awful med. It took me 7 months to wean off altogether after 2.5 years on it and even that was a little fast. I'm not missing Cymbalta one bit now, as it was soooo hard to wean from. Will update again in a few more weeks. I feel there IS hope to return to some level of normality after being poisoned with this stuff. Stick with your careful weaning people. You can have your life back. :)

Was on Cymbalta 60mg. about 3 yrs. Stopped c/t when I lost my ins. Horrible w/d. Now back on and weaning slowly. Still suffering. Looking for help from people who have been there. Been tapering for 2 months, and down about 9 mg.

I just read your post and wondered how things have gone since you wrote it? I am in a state of panic after reading all of the posts about withdrawal.
