Hi everyone.

I gained about 15-20 lbs on cymbalta and it won't come off no matter what. I am currently at 20mg (from 60mg) and am hoping that once I am off the evil drug that I will lose the weight. However, I read some posts on a different forum that claimed the weight gain caused by cymbalta is possibly permanent. I would assume that once the dry is out of the system that the body would recover and the weight would come off. But I wanted to get some other perspectives.

Has cymbalta caused weight gain for you? If so, has withdrawing been successful in getting it back off?

Thanks,
Jen

I gained 50lbs while on the medication. I do not think weight gain is permanent. Weight gain is never permanent, you can always do something about it (eating healthy, exercising)

I think some antidepressants cause insulin resistance, which is sometimes associated with weight gain.

I lost weight since I started tapering.

Good to know. I think I have been pretty paranoid since taking nag withdrawing from this horrible medication. I have been concerned that it causes permanent damage- including damages regarding metabolic functions etc. I have been completely off this drug for 4 days now. I suppose it will take time to lose the weight it helped put on...

I think insulin resistance reverses once you quit antidepressants ( I am not a doctor though)

I started cymbalta 60 mg July 2010. It was too high and went to 30 mg that seemed better. This past year i've gained 15 lbs and have been going to gym since Oct 2010 only to continue gaining. I want off this med and wanted to go back on Wellbrutin for anxiety. My doctor advised me to just switch from CYM to Well. It's only been a week but I feel horrible. I have decreased appetite. And have already lost 5lbs. I believe CYM causes weight gain, at least for me.
