Hi Rico I too have just started and want off. Have you started weaning? I did one week on 30mg then started 60mg Thursday so it's been 5 days on 60mg. I am so hot and itchy I called dr and they gave me more 30mg samples thinking i was trying to go back up to 60mg again but slower but I'm going to do 30mg for 7 days then not sure if should go off then or one day on one day off?

My doctor just started me on Cymbalta for pain from arthritis. After reading the posts here I want off this stuff. I took 30mg. for a week and have just finished my second week at 60mg. Should I quit cold turkey or taper as I have been on it such a short time? Thanks for being here.
You are smart to start the weaning process immediately. I was on 30 mg for 5 weeks and it took me about 4 months of pure hell to wean off it. Start tapering by cutting your dose to 1/2 of your regular dose then down again from there. Also, take B Complex and 1200 mg of Omega 3 Fish Oil while you are tapering. It will make a huge difference in the side effects. Good luck!

Hi Everyone, this is my first post.
NOTE: To Rico: This message has no info about coming off your dose, so you could read it another time if someone else has answered your question. I do mention something about your post further down, just not any advice about weaning after such a short time on Cymbalta.
A key point in this post is that Rico said his doctor had just prescribed Cymbalta to him for arthritis pain.
The reason it is key is that my doctor also prescribed it for arthritis and Fibromyalgia pain for me. And supposedly be "miraculous" in increasing my energy level. Yeah, right! After reading here for a while first, it's just so obvious that this is a crock.
The reason I think that is key is that I am, as of today, September 21st, 2011, brand new, and most of the posts I've read so far that were here before I was (before this post) were people who had been prescribed Cymbalta for depression. I find this a disturbing trend. Obviously, the deafness of some of our doctors to our protests of withdrawals is due to the makers of Cymbalta pushing harder on their campaign to sell this drug ... apparently one group at a time. I've seen this before (for reference, see Pfizer and Neurontin law suit late 90's to early 2000) and it is never about patient health and always about "increasing company value/worth" ... in other words: greed.
Other than those on this forum who have suffered from Cymbalta, we seem to be the "next gen" (or I'm just showing off my newbie-ness because I haven't yet seen the thread called "other uses for Cymbalta" or some-such?) of those who have unwittingly become new Cymbalta users.
I am here at this site because my doctor prescribed Cymbalta to me September 13th, just last week.
I told one of my 3 friends on Cymbalta that my doctor just prescribed it for me and that he (the doctor) completely ignored my insistence that there are bad withdrawals from it when attempting to go off (my friends being the source of experience that fueled my insistence).
My friend told me about this site (cymbaltawithdrawal.com) and I wanted to come here to read about this and sort of shore up on reassurances that I did the right thing by telling the pharmacy I would not be picking up my prescription and to pour the pills back in their bins.
After reading for an hour or so, I would say I definitely did the right thing. My doctor said he would "start" me at 20 mg. I think that is a very important word coming out of a prescribing doctor's mouth: "start". That means the doctor intends, before seeing your reaction to the drug, to increase the drug dosage. In other words, if it doesn't work, the doctor will increase the medication in order to "see if it works now". Good thing to keep in mind when doc whips out his/her Rx pad!
When I complained to this doctor that 2 of the 3 friends I have who are on Cymbalta are wanting off (one is at 60mg/day the other at 180mg/day) and not being able to even titrate down, the doctor said, and I quote him exactly, "Well, they come in capsules, so you could just pour some out.". Some? Really? Wow, that is so vague coming from someone who has to know prescription dosages for his livelihood!
This is not this doctor's usual demeanor when it comes to medicine. He is normally alert, informed and wise about medicines. He was in fact, the only doctor who helped me make a decision (before taking it) on Effexor (I chose not to take it) and he did it well right out of a nap my phone call jolted him out of. Everything he warned me about regarding the Effexor extreme withdrawal was all over the internet. Generally speaking, he is the one I call when I'm unsure about any new medication. So his behavior regarding Cymbalta really startled me.
My conclusion is his drug pusher (or whatever you call the guys in suits with briefcases who get in to see your doctor before you do and hand pamphlets to front desk staff, those guys) had just been to see him.
I'm here primarily to calm the doubts I had about telling my pharmacy to keep their Cymbalta to themselves just last week. *Whew* That was a close call!
So, strangely enough for me, I'm at a support forum for support because of a drug I refused to take! I know when I go see my P.C.P. (Primary Care Physician) next month, he's likely to try to get me on Cymbalta or Effexor. I need all the backup that already exists here. So I will most likely be reading, primarily.
To forum members who read this whole post: Thanks for listening for so long, and know you've SAVED someone (me!) by sharing your own experience.
Thank you.
