I been on Cymbalta for about three years maybe longer and originaly starting taking it for anxiety/panic attacks. Its seems most people have taken this for depression. I am and always have been on 30mg but want to try and ween off of it, the only problem is I get anxiety just thinking about it. I dont want to have issues with anxiety again and feel like the cymbalta has helped me but dont want to be on it anymore. Has anyone taken cymbalta for just anxiety and stopped taking in? Do anxiety/ panic attacks come back?
Thanks
Nicholas

I had post natal depression and contrary to the term I had had more anxiety than depression. First thing what other things are you doing to combat anxiety? exercise, diet, mindfulness exerciese, any cognitive behaviour therapy with your psychologist, going to church. You really need to have a good set of strategies to deal with when dealing with anxiety and depression. The tablet hides the problems it doesnt cure it. If not go see the doctor about weaning in conjunction with seeing your psychologist. Start walking everyday (or going to the gym), eat heaps of fruit and veges, take vitamins (Bcomplex and fish oils are great. I hope it words out for you. regards Julie

Was on 30mg for 3 years. Decided to wean off after getting blood work that showed I have extremely high liver enzyme levels.

I started taking Cymbalta for anxiety about 3 years ago. I don't have nearly the anxiety issues and worry, but I now have liver enzyme levels that are extremely high. I have started tapering down very slowly and am ok so far.

I worried over this and started feeling anxious before I started tapering down. I decided that my health was more important and that I can deal with the anxiety (mine is a heavy feeling sitting on my chest).

So far, I haven't felt that come back. I'm hoping that I'm at a different place in life now then where I was 3 years ago and that this won't be a problem.

Good luck to you- you can do it!

Oh- to add to what Julie has said- I take Vitamin B Complex and Fish Oil. That seems to help. I also exercise and watch what I eat.

Hi Newbie,

Yes, there are others out there who are on it for anxiety and panic attacks. I've been on Celexa and Effexor previously. As bad as Cymbalta withdrawals can be, nothing is as bad as Effexor. That stuff is pure evil in a capsule. I became completely paranoid and a weeping, quivering pile of mush. Anyway, Cymbalta works really well for me in ridding me of generalized anxiety and panic attacks, but I've given up my sex life for it. Thank god for another pill - Levitra, but even that is not 100% reliable. Its a double edged sword for me - I love the cymbalta for the focus and confidence it gives me at my job, but having sex problems is a HUGE issue. Anyway, I recently tried to ween off and was doing well until I had a severe panic attack that made me visit the ER. Back on 60MG again.

I got off Cymbalta for about 2 months and got anxiety attacks again, I am taking them again for 2 weeks and just waiting for them to kick in again.
I am also taking a course each week of natural therapy, diet is important especially food with Trytophan, Omega 3, folic acid. Look up Neil Nedley website, (or has this been mentioned before on this site)

To get off of Cymbalta, just the beginning of getting my body clean and sober and off of all of the medications that doctors insisted I needed.

I've just started doing yoga and so far it's working very well. It helps with balancing and slowing down the chemical responses in your brain and helps with learning to breath better and deeper and with relaxation. I'm doing this as well as meditation and tai chi. Taking time out to sit quietly for prayer, to just observe the world around you, to sit and close your eyes while listening to relaxing music, all can achieve the same results. Because I get bored doing any one thing, I do them all in a kind of rotation.
