Hi fellow sufferers,

I've been taking Cymbalta 60mg for roughly 2 months. I only experienced side effects like worsening depression, nausea, insomnia, mood swings etc. but no actual benefits (that should have been less depression, reduced anxiety and less IBS symptoms). Out of this reasons I decided to stop and reduced the medication gradually (first one pill every two days then one every 3 days and so on). This has been 3 weeks ago and since then I feel worse then ever. My concentration is completely gone, I feel constantly depressed and suffering from brain zaps and dizziness. I'm not able to work any more and I don't know how long it will take to go back to normal. Are there any suggestions out there? I would strongly recommend to anyone to think twice before taking these pills.

Hi Mari,

My situation is very similar. I was taking 60mg for only two months, but the side effects were too much and I decided to quit cold turkey. I was prescribed it for chronic back pain (scoliosis) and it was really working well. The first time I've been out of pain in years! But it caused horrible constipation ( I also have IBS) I couldn't go for over a week and I was taking laxatives twice a day! Also it made my emotional response so flat- no happy, no sad, no excitement, just wayyy too chilled out. Killed my sex drive and response completely.
My hubby is a pharmacist and advised me to taper off, but I went on ahead and just quit completely all at once. Last Thursday was my last dose so I'm now on Day 5. It hasn't been too bad. All my side effects listed above were gone by Day 2, and unfortunately my pain was back too. I have had these weird feelings in my head like that sensation you feel when a deer runs out in front of your car. It just lasts a sec or two but it has been happening a lot. I've been going to the gym and working out like crazy to try to "sweat it out" of my system, plus I have so much energy now! I was dizzy the first two days or so but that's gone. I don't have much experience with meds that alter brain chemistry, but I've decided I don't like mine being messed with and will avoid these kind of drugs in the future. I teared-up in Target today looking at baby clothes which was kind of weird and so not like me, but then again I was happy to be feeling emotion after 2 months of a constant "yeah, whatever" mood! Didn't like that flat affect at all!
I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad through this and I hope it will all be over for you quickly. Good luck to you!
