Any ideas on whether or not this drug has caused permanent brain damage. Depression is a piece of cake compared to this. I have suffered from chronic depression for about 18 years. I am now 52 years old. If I thought that this was permanent I might just have to get that pistol back out. (kidding, mostly) How does a med like this ever get onto the market. I went through some withdrawal from lexapro and effexor but nothing to compare to this. I have decided that I am not going to try any more anti depressants. The only thing that ever worked was a combination of welbutrin and amphetamine. Unfortunately, the speed destroyed my heart. Cardiomyopathy with a 15% ejection fraction. Now I have an ICD (implanted cardiac defribulator) Fortunately my heart has recovered somewhat so a transplant wont be necessary.

Basically, no one knows yet about permanant damage from Cymbalta. I've been doing a lot of research in the medical journals recently regarding Cymbalta. Until the past year or so, all of the Cymbalta studies were funded by Eli Lilly...so, all the negative effects were downplayed (if they were reported). Within the past 12-18 months, independent medical researchers, not funded by Lilly, have started questioning the negative effects of Cymbalta. I haven't seen any reports about permanant damage, but that doesn't mean anything. Most people on this site have reported that the symptoms eventually went away, but there are a few people who still have lingering symptoms.
