Hi,

Im 19 and a type 1 diabetic and ive been on cymbalta now for nearly two years on 30mg. It was perfect for me, helped with back pain from a car accident, no mood swings, no depression or anxiety but i was also alot more numb to any feelings at all. I was in my first year of university and doing quite well with 70-80% scores. About 3 months ago my doctor finally increased me to 60mg and each day vomiting, headaches, uncontrollable crying, couldnt get out if bed and violent mood swings. Aka complete hell. I have recently (3 weeks ago) went back down to 30mg, after all that time thinking 60mg would eventually adjust (it didnt) and it is not the same.
My depression has worsened 100x and i cannot go an hour without tearing up. In the last few months my exams were held and i have failed one subject and recieved no higher than 60% in each class. I have no motivation to finish my course and after failing im ready to drop out.

Im ready to wean off cymbalta but im extremely scared. As vomiting when your a type 1 can be a deathtrap leading to low blood sugars. In a complete rut and it is ruining my life.

Please help me!!!

hi

As a type 1 diabetic being sick has crossed my mind since stopping cymbalta. Just done a week with out my 120mg dose and haven't been sick. I was also given it for back pain after a climbing accident but as my healing contuined it doubled up as my anti-depressent. Having been taken of it at christmas i tryed anotther form of anti-depressents but was placed back on to cymbalta on a higher dose. Recently my depression has got worse. Having stopped my bloods have been a bit erratic due to not sleeping and having a erratic appetite.

I am so glad i came of this horrible life controlling drug.

I am so sorry that you both are suffering so much.  If you decide to go off Cymbalta, find a good Doctor that will stay in contact with you and help you taper VERY SLOWLY, take your calls at any hour and listen to you.  Also make sure you have someone who will check up on you regularly (hopefully will live with you or move in with you until you are stable.

I haven't been on the site for quite some time and it kills me that doctors are still giving this drug out ! I think what helped me when getting off the Cymbalta was Zoloft and Trazodone. The trazodone help me with sleep although it took several months, And the Zoloft helped with depression but also took a while to and I don't do well with anti-depressants in fact I've been really bad on about everything except Zoloft so it might be something to consider. I also had big problems with diarrhea. Imodium helped pretty good but took until about a week ago. I stoped the Cymbalta on April 21 this year and I think what really helped the diarrhea was Chia seeds. It may have been a coincidence but since starting the Chia seeds my bowel movements have been better than they have been several years well more than 10 years. Also you might want to try niacin which is vitamin B three to help with the moods. I keep forgetting to try it but there's a lady on here from Canada lady Nancy I think she's called she's got a picture of it dragonfly for her avatar. Look for her because she knows a lot about the subject she's been on there for a long time helping a lot of people she's our Cymbalta Angel.

Zoloft is just as bad to get off of.  Did your doctor discuss this with you??

A good doctor and loving supportive family are rare, you've got to be there for yourself...
