"The FastDiet" is a book by Dr. Michael Mosley and Mimi Spencer, published by Atria Books.

This little book is too expensive, and therefore I don't recommend buying it until the price drops by half. The majority of the content is nice-to-know, with just enough scientific rationale, so it's not overwhelming. The text also contains many sample recipes and food charts. I did buy the book, but I found that I didn't need it to derive the value from its thesis.

The good news is this program does NOT deprive you of food, but rather it reduces caloric intake intermittently. There is compelling scientific data that this kind of regimen is familiar to our bodies- perhaps it's ancient, in our DNA. There is evidence that the program is beneficial to our overall health.

The idea is to restrict your total caloric intake every third day to 500 for women and 600 for men. On the two days between, you just eat what you normally eat . As you see, just two days out of the week are calorie-restricted.

A variation on this diet is to restrict calories every other day, and that proves to reduce weight faster. Once the desired weight is attained, the regimen would be changed to the every third day version first mentioned.

I've been on it just two weeks, and I am down a couple of pounds and I seem to have more energy and a clearer head. I will follow-up on this.

Go to Amazon.com, search the book and go to "Look Inside" and read the liner notes, chapter titles, and some paragraphs from the text.

Thismoment. .interesting find. Thank you for sharing your experience with this diet. I'll look into the book. I'm more of a protein person and hope this will work along with the healthy proteins I put into my body. I'm sure the members here will find this book quite helpful. Keep us posted on your progress with this diet..

Here I am again, saying THANK YOU to thismoment . Wow this actually sounds doable for me I will go to Amazon as soon as I get off here & check it out.
Congratulations on losing a couple of pounds & feeling better for it. This is my next goal, as soon as I'm sure I'm recovering from my withdrawal .
I'm learning that for me to cope , I need to concentrate on just one thing @ a time .

Thismoment, thank you for the compliment on my strength and enjoying my posts. I try not to get too deep into thought, therefore keep a positive thought each day somewhere in my head and most of the time it just pops in there to help reduce my anxiety. I get an uplift as I help others which takes me out of my own mind and pushes myself away from turning inward. You are a gift to all those who are fearing, and holding on each day through their withdrawal symptoms. You will continue to help others in the future as you have in the past. Keep going. there is a forum waiting for you. :)

THISMOMENT, for the sake of many others that will follow us into the abyss that is CRAPALTA WITHDRAWALS . I personally think that you are very much needed on this site & even when we are all well & have moved on with our lives YOU my dear friend have the ability & everything else that it takes , to help MANY people .
Your knowledge on the subject is enormous & just maybe you could hang around & help others as you have done for us .
Xx

Gail
You are too kind. And thank you as well Carleeta and Equuswoman!

This forum is a place of healing, and we all contribute in many different ways by reaching through and making contact. Sometimes just an acknowledgement, or a 'Like This' is enough to touch a weary heart. There is pain here, uncertainty, confusion, disillusionment, disappointment, and fear. Perhaps that describes a broken heart.

The prognosis for many of us isn't clear, and the future often feels eerily beyond our grasp. But we're in a waiting game, and we boost one another! Hang in there kids! Steady as she goes.

I was reviewing your posting on the Fast Diet. The alterrnate days are 600 calories for men. That would be a problem for me s ny medicine alone is over 500 calories. lol I could get pretty hungry on those alternate days!! lol

Absolutely. Most pills whether they be over the counter or prescription contain some type of sugar (so they don't taste as bad) and also some type of starch as a binder.

Wagtail, there are very few calories in vita is if any. There calories in vitamins wouldnt effect your dieting, I believe. Vitamin labels do indicate their calorie amount on them. Glad you are checking them out.

Hi fishinghat. That is so interesting- I never considered that either. That would leave you with a couple of apples or a banana- pretty skimpy! Take care my friend.

Hi fellow sufferers, I was interested to know how Thismoment is traveling with the "fast diet" ! . Wondering if it is time for me to take stock & follow the footsteps. ANY SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT LOSS ?.
I guess my first step is to purchase the plan & see if it's doable for me.
I have been hesitant to take on another goal just yet until I'm convinced that I'm give it my best shot.

11 weeks since my last Cymbalta , 10 yrs of 60 mg down to zero mg in two weeks . A very unpleasant journey for sure, & one I will advice anyone who asks , to NEVER TAKE . A journey that I dare to believe has turned a corner & is on the homestretch .
I had three amazing ( for me ) days then one MEDIUM DAY & today is somewhere between MEDIUM & SMOOTH.
Hopefully more good days to follow .

I've been meaning to ask everyone , did anyone suffer from weeping eyes as a s/e while taking Cymbalta ?. I was diagnosed with the oxymoron " DRY EYE" syndrome , which meant that my eyes were constantly running .
I have noticed that they're a little better since my withdrawal & I'm hoping with all my heart that it was a s/e & is going to heal.

It warms my heart to see my other sufferers getting well also , albeit whilst coping with the dreadful demon s/e & discontinuation symptoms .
Good God , I've rambled on & on & forgot what I came on to quote to ... Ha ha I guess that's normal !.
Xx

Hi Gail

I've been on the FastDiet for 17 days now and am down 4.5 lbs.

I'm alternating 1:1. Day one restricts calories to 500 for women and 600 for men- include some protein. Day two has no restrictions.

The book says alternate 1:2 where day one you restrict calories as above, and days two and three have no restrictions.

It's easier to manage than Weight Watchers, but I don't know if it's better, because that's a broad abstraction I wouldn't attempt to unpack.

We've found we need to add a restriction to the day with no restrictions: there is a temptation to eat too much late into the evening on the unrestricted day, and that affects sleep. Therefore we've deemed that anything eaten after dinner on the unrestricted days- beyond 7 pm- can only be fresh fruit or vegetables.

That's it.
