For all the ladies on the forum....

I am wondering if any of you experienced changes in your monthly cycles (whether you saw changes to your actual period, ovulation or mid-cycle) after coming off Cymbalta ?

I just had the worst cervix cramps in my life last night, but haven't noticed a change otherwise, but I was only on Cymbalta for 7 weeks. I've been off totally for about a week. Normally I'll get a twinge or two, but last night it was steady, intense pain and I had to fall asleep with a heating pad between my legs.

Thank you for your reply teemi. I am having UTI (bladder infection) symptoms also, so it could be that too. I saw my doctor about the bladder infection symptoms this morning, they are going to send the urine sample out for a culture and see if that comes back with anything.

I am experiencing symptoms that could either be due to a UTI or mid-cycle/ovulation symptoms that I have never gotten before, specifically blood in my urine. Sorry for being so graphic. Which could either be a sign of a bladder infection or breakthrough bleeding due to ovulation/mid-cycle.

I'm not sure if going off the Cymbalta could have created this new symptom, if its not a bladder infection.

Well guys and gals. Cymbalta is famous for causing PSSD (post ssri sexual dysfunction). If after stopping cymbalta for 2 months if the sexual dysfunctions continue then they are considered permanent. Please see;

This is the voice of experience, it does happen. If you have any questions let me know.

Hi fishinghat,
Thank you for the articles.
My question is about not so much a sexual dysfunction issue, more of a "could the blood in my urine during pre ovulation be a new side effect from stopping cymbalta" question.

Sorry if I seem ignorant, this is all new territory for me.

I just did some internet searching for you, and found a couple of articles that I can't get at because they're in databases that require passwords and or purchase .... But from what I can tell, they indicate that blood in urine and stools is one of the *very* rare side effects of cymbalta/duloxetine .... Less than 1% of users .... Also incontinence .... That's a bit more common .... Which makes me feel better, as I've had two episodes of that since I started withdrawal .... Had actually forgotten until your question, as I was having so much fun (sarc)
With all the other side effects ....

Man, we are all helping each other learn what our docs shld know and be teaching us ....

I really, really really would like to put every single doc who prescribes this crap on the stuff, max dose, for at least a year .... Then take 'em off it with no taper ....

Now, as I'm Catholic, I guess I'm gonna hafta go to confession ...no biggee, as . I'm already doing my damn penance, 8 weeks of it so far ....

Or rather, can coming off cymbalta cause changes in how a woman's monthly cycles behave ?

Jerseygirl921..Here I'm in the same boat with FiveNotions on this..past your age..It's very possibly this withdrawl process could affect your menstrual cycle, as to many others such as strain and stress to the female body.. When our bodies go ty hough as any change what so ever it can through off our menstrual cycles..and hormones..Therefore I wouldn't be suprised..I'm hoping someone closer to your age chimes in on your post and can give your a more definite answer..Keep us posted...

Ok, here's a discussion from another depression website ... It's from a couple years ago, but yep, sure sounds like cymbalta can mess with menstrual cycles... Heck, it's an equal opportunity destroyer, so if it can mess with the male function, it's only fair it can mess with us gals .....

Talk about getting screwed but not having any fun.....

JerseyGirl, yes it can. Many of the sexual dysfunctions are due to changes in estrogen and /or testosterone which definitely affect your menstrual cycle.

Jerseygirl921. .In answer to your question if cymbalta withdrawl itself causes a urinary tract infection? UT I'M are mostly caused by bacteria( E Coli) ..Bacteria entering the urinary tract..Therefore bacteria either already inside your body (caused by something else in your body causing bacteria) or outside bacteria, which either way, results in entering your urinary tract..Therefore I would have to say 'No', cymbalta withdrawl does not cause UTI'S. Do not know if cymbalta withdrawl mimics a UTI. When checking for UTI'S , the patients are given a urine sample test..Two tests are conducted...One your sample will be put in a tube and then put into what is called a urinalysis machine which detects if there is blood cells present, sugar, and etc..Then the second test is where the drops of urine are placed on Macon key and blood plate (blood plate is actual sheep's blood made in a form of a gel) once the drops are placed on these 2 separate plates..They are then streaked (make markings with a plastic stick in a form of z ' s onto these plates..like smearing the urine on the plates in a design) the plates are then covered and placed in an incubator for a minimum of 24 hours..Then are then opened and detected for bacterial or fungas or other foreign growths...Now aren't you sorry I was the one who answered your post first. .lol lol..

Now since you know the debts of the actual test..lol lol..

I have to say it's very unlikely cymbalta withdrawl causes UTI, S and feel it's hard to mimic UTI'S ..Only because in almost all cases it it caused by bacteria....Hope this microbiology crash course has helped answer your question...I would still have the urine checked to see if/what causing signs of a UTI..Good Luck..

Hey thanks carleeta for the info....I did actually go to the doctor today...they took a sample there. I believe the test they performed there was what they called a "color change" test which may have been the stick test with the little squares on it and they see what comes up positive.

Anyway, they did that and there wasn't anything suspicious on that test, so they are going to send it out to get cultured and see if anything grows. Should have the results in about five days. Seems like a while to me, but anyway. . Thanks for the crash course ! Interesting stuff ! I'll keep everyone posted.

Jerseygirl921 yes the test they did on you was the accurate test for possible UTI...If it was suspected in that test they would have sent your urine onward to do bacteria growth tests..Glad your first test didn't indicate anything from the norm..Glad for you..

FishingHat. .lol lol...Wow I found myself back in the micro lab for a bit..lol lol..Very common test in a micro lab..Did about 600 of those tests a day..lol lol...90 percent are just routine urine tests..

Good luck Jerseygirl921! ! !

Jerseygirl921. .It's routine to have it plated. It's sad to say, although, you will be paying for the whole routine test anyway..so I'm glad he is following through...so just in case there is a bit of any infection starting you will be given an antibiotic to clear it up. UTI'S are so very very very common in females. Just happy you followed up on your female issues...Always always listen to what your body is telling you..you are the only one who know your own body..Have a nice restful evening..

Well, I've got a new "cymbalta withdrawal gift" to report .... Urinary incontinence .... WTF?! Went to target today to pick up some stuff, stopped for a moment In he little eatery area, and voila .... There I sat, with it happening .... More than a drop or two, but thank The Lord not a full flood .... Oh goodie, something new for me to experience and research ..... Can I add this to our thread on "positive events" ? ... I can positively pee in public now ....

You know, that's something I haven't really thought about .... It is hard to go out in public during withdrawal .... And I just need to say it is totally weird .... I keep wondering if I'm acting normal enuf to "pass" without being noticed .... Stuff like that .... Also, the sensory input can be overwhelming .... Most of my trips out have been to visit my friend in the nursing home .... Which, by definition, isn't very stimulating .... I fit right in there, hehehe .... But target today was really trippy ..... All the colors .... RED everywhere .... Crying babies, smells at the food court .... Wow!

Well, it's official .... I think I've high jacked the "for the ladies" discussion ... Sorry .... Is there a way to move stuff around or break off into a new discussion? If so, let me know and I'll try to fix this ....
