Hi All,

I am new here, read amazing things about this site.  I have come here for help getting off this drug.

I have been on 60mg for 15 months then went down 30 mg 2 weeks ago.  I tried the dr's suggestion of every other day crap but was very ill yesterday.  PLEASE help me with the best way of getting off of this, the every other day is NOT going to work.

I thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi CM. Welcome to the site. The every other day thing doesn't work because Cymbalta has a half life of 12 hour. All you are doing is jacking your blood levels up when you take the medicine and then your blood levels drop 75% during those next 48 hours, big withdrawal, then yoou take a pill and jack your levels back up. You keep repeating the withdrawal over and over. Bead counting is the best way to go.

You need to get stable first. Do you think you can stay at 30 mg/day until stable?  If so just stay there until you get feeling better.

Bead counting, is where you open the cymbalta capsule each day and remove a few beads, usually 2 or 3. So the first day you remove 3 beads, the next day 6 beads, the next 9 beads etc. This provides for a slow steady withdrawal. If symptoms get to bad you just hold at that dosage for a while until you stabilize. Then start dropping again. Be aware that for most the last few beads give the worse withdrawal. Be prepared to slow down when you get to the very end. Now this is just an example. Some can only remove 1 bead a day and others 7 or 8 beads a day. You will have to play with it a little bit to find what works for you. This doesn't mean you won't have withdrawal but it will be lighter and you will have some control over it.

Bead counting is the ONLY way that I'll ever rid myself of this poison...I tried the way my physician said to do it, just like you did. The w/d came at day 10 after I'd dropped from 60mg down to 30mg.

I found myself at hells door.t It was a wonderful day when I found this forum and learned about the bead counting way to wean off Cymbalta. You can do this, it is difficult, or has been for me at even dropping only one bead per day but I am now down to only 17 more beads and I will be finished.

Welcome to the forum of hope and prayers for you. TheEquuswoman

the every other day method DOES NOT work because your body will start to go into withdrawal as soon as you miss a dose. i wasn't able to wean myself off, but if you are trying to, bead counting is the way to go...skipping doses just throws your body into full on withdrawal as if you are going cold turkey. it's irresponsible and downright dangerous for doctors to promote that method of "weaning."

Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms others have and support for myself and help others

Hi CM! I agree with the others! The every other day only prolongs the misery of w/ds! If you are determined to get off the drug, IMHO the bead counting is the way to go! Take it easy with yourself! Get closest fam' and friends on board for support. If possible get your support network peeps to read some posts here so they know what to expect. Post what you need to here, good or bad, it helps! We're here for you!!!1 Prayers and hugs!!! clara :)

Hi there, I started on 60mg and over four days i reduced it daily, then when i started to get withdrawals i stopped dropping the does until i felt better then i took out another 5mg yesterday, today i am taking out another 10mg which means i'll be on 30mg ad this is my 5th day. I have also been taking these daily; Bvitamins (twice a day) 1000mg fish oil, a womens multivitamins, orange juice for tiredness, redbull is supposed to help brain zaps greatly but have not tried it yet as i have had no brain zaps. lots of water and hydrate powder for dealing with sweating and keeping hydrated. generally eating and drinking well and resting as much as i can. I know all this has helped because when  used to take a cymbalta pill late my withdrawals would be severely awful, nothing i have ever experienced before. hope this helps. good luck.

Hi All,

THANK YOU so much for your thoughts and well wishes.  I made a decision, it may not be the right one or the right way but I have not taken this crap for 4 days and I am doing well.  I am having pretty bad dizzy spells not all the time but they come in waves, I am taking Dramamine for the dizziness.  The brain zaps aren't to bad during the day, only at nighttime.  I do have a stomach flip every now and then but no vomiting.

I was totally going to do the bead counting but I could not get over the fact of having to continue to take this crap, I just couldn't.  I do not want it in my body anymore, so I just stopped.  I am soooooooooo happy do have found this forum and all the great information.

Hope you all are having a GREAT day !!!

Essentially I am here for support and real information. On a journey away from this medication and towards a mindful, present state of being. My goal is to find courage, my hope to help someone along the way. Change.

Ditto to advice of others regarding the half-life of this "drug". SOOOOO proud for you Cymbaltamom to DC! Not 4 everyone, as you probably know, but I am like you and do not want to put the crap in my body. Anymore. You and I are in about the same time frame.

Please go to health food store and get all natural replacements. I have been cold turkey and using HTP along with my daily vitamins and fish oil etc. There is a lot to choose from so research and talk to them.
