First, thank you to those who took the time to respond to my first post.  I saw this site 6-8 months ago and have recently made up my mind to get off the toxin.  For most off my life, starting in adolescence, I have been on one anti-depressant or another: for OCD ,anxiety, and depression.

I have noticed that taking antidepressants every other day has greater efficacy than taking them every day, as prescribed.  Don't know why this is but it has been working, Question: what do you all think about continuing to take cymbalta every other day while decrementing via counting beads? Also, as cymblahblah has some effectiveness regarding nerve pain control does anybody have any info on what I can expect as far as pain?  I've had two back surgeries and, thank God, have recovered nicely from a triple lamenectomy procedure last summer. Don't know what pain is being covered up by the cymbalta and just curious if anyone else has had pain control issues after beginning tapering off?  Thank you all so much.  I know of no other people who are dealing with this problem except for you wonderful folks. THANK YOU!!

I can't really answer your questions on the back pain. From what I have read on here it varies a lot. I am sure others will chip in.

DO NOT go every other day when weaning. You take a capsule one day and jack up the levels of Cymbalta in the blood. In the next 48 hours your blood concentrations will drop 93%!!!  So that second day you take another pill and jack up your blood levels. You wind up repeating the withdrawal over and over. This can't be rushed!! There is only one way to beat this....bead counting. Sow but sure.

Now that I have been off this poison for over 6 years, I hope to help others as they join us

Welcome goldensilence!

So happy you have decided to join us!  I hope that you have chosen the bead counting - I jumped in cold turkey and didn't find this site for 2 weeks!  I do NOT recommend it!

I was also on Hydrocodone for break through fibro and arthritis pain and Alprazolam (Xanax) which I continue to take to this day.  I don't know what I would have done without them during that horrible withdrawal - I thought I was dying...

Now I suffer from sleep problems and some anxiety - even tho I have been off the poison for 6 1/2 months.  I just wait for it to eventually fade away.

Do you have anything for pain or any benzo?   I occasionally would take 3 Ibuprofen and that would work if the pain was not too great.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, or you can just come on here to vent, scream and cry if you need to!  We have all done that - this is a very safe place and no one judges you.

Good luck and please keep up updated!

Cymbalta has been a nightmare, I need some answers and shared experiences.

Hi GS

Re: pain issues - I found that my pain became extremely bad during weaning and discontinuation - I suffer from fibromyalgia and my central nervous system went completely mad when I kicked Cymbalta (once again, it's calmed right down over a couple of months) - but yes, dont be suprised if pain evels increase in your body and new pains appear daily - it passes. Make sure you have pain relief at hand and benzo'z (as the good people here on this forum advised me) - it's a strange experience and can be extremely disconcerting but...it passes. :)

and yes - Fishing Hat is right - having a dose every alternate day is really bad (I did that and ended up in the pyschiatric emergency dept) -I dropped 60- 30mg and was also taking one every second day and thus in a protracted state of withdrawal for 3 months - disaster!

Bead counting is the way!

I have had back surgery and hip replacement. I am still taking for my chronic arthritis pain oxycodone 4 tabs per day. Probably always will. I am however off forever the Cymbalta poison.

Hope and prayers for you on your journey. TC TheEquusWoman

To The Intrepid WonderWoman, the EquusWoman, the iconic super-bionic equus-wrangling sleeve tattoo friendly witchy-woman fabulous survivor gentle soul but don't fuck with me warrior- we who endure this abominable discontinuation salute you!!

If I could say a prayer I'd say one for you! So please accept my best wishes as I see you have found your forum feet. Life is neither a bowl of cherries nor a box of chocolates, but I think Forrest Gump got pretty close with "you never know what you're gonna get." Here's a quote from the Hitch that suggests how one might engage the time remaining to each of us.

"You’re expelled from your mother’s uterus as if shot from a cannon, towards a barn door studded with old nail files and rusty hooks. It’s a matter of how you use up the intervening time in an intelligent and ironic way."

Thank you for your thoughts, TFL.  I am prescribed  Norco x's 3/ daily and Xanax 1mg, 3/ daily. Today I was thinking the very thing you mentioned.   I was thinking that since withdrawal overexcites the CNS and Xanax (and norco) is a  CNS depressants that it may help to alleviate some of the effects of withdrawal.  I've been able to decrease my need for Xanax, in part, through meditative practices and prayer so that i often take less Xanax than prescribed.

Hi all, I also was wondering if Cymbalta was covering up pain symptoms. I'm 33 and had a spinal fusion last year… I'm only down 5mg from my normal 60 mg of Cymbalta and already have neck pain. Bummer.
