I have tapered down to 20 mg a day from 30 and it is making me restless mentally emotionally and physically...I looked up akasthesia and it fits...i go from thought to thought, task to task, mood to mood. My toes and fingers are restless too.

i feel so sped up like being manic...my doc wants me to double my zyprexa at night and it helps but i'm going through menopause and struggling with my weight..Zyprexa causes weight gain;o((

Anyway...does anyone know if there is such a thing as withdrawal induced akathesia?

Thanks!!

Read so many painful stories on here and offering others support while trying to heal myself from cymbalta and other antidepressents.

ittybittysmitty. Honestly, I am not familiar with 'withdrawal induced akathesia'. Although, others may be able to help you out on this forum. Soon they should be chiming in and shed some light on your question. I know the antsy feeling though. I can sit still and have to constantly be doing something (or my body and mind are telling me to) and I remembering jumping from one task to another and forgetting what I was just doing. I too worried about my weight, although I always did. I've always been conscious about maintaining a certain weight, and I believe that is just part of who I am. I wouldn't be too concerned about the weight issue now because you know that is something you can always fix with a bit of self restraint. Outside of a pound or two which we might gain each year do to getting a bit older. That too can be fixed with a bit of exercise. I would only worry if the weight is coming on at a fast pace and you have no idea as to why. Then I would check with your physician and bring it to his attention, for there are many other reasons for weight gain. Menapuse will add a few pounds and there are ways to get that under control also.

Best of luck to you......

I c/t'd from 60mg in 2009. Went back on and started tapering. Spent the next 4 years trying to get off. It was very difficult. Finally stopped at 17 beads on Dec.4, 2013.

Yes, IBS, I have akathisia.  Mine started about 6 weeks after taking my last Cymbalta.  I have spent many

hours pacing and pacing the floor.  When I have an episode, I can't lie down or even sit down. I can only

pace and pace.  It's terrifying.   I had a break from it about a month ago, and I hoped it was gone forever.

But now it's back.   I'm so ready for it to go away.

Here's the link to the article. The relationship between discontinuation and Akathesia is discussed.

Carleeta,

Thank you! It's nice to know someone who can relate...how long have you been off the Cymbalta? Most of us women struggle with accepting our bodies...are you familiar with the the Dove campaign?

Thank you TM...this article validates what so many of us experience...If only Eli Lilly would've been up front instead of being wealth driven and careless.

Lundeliz...i'm so sorry you're going through the akathesia...Did your doctor tell you that's what it is? Sounds textbook to me...are you taking a benzo or a beta blocker? I already take Klonopin and he have me an Rx for a BB...which I haven't tried because i don't want to take any more drugs...
