Well that sucks!!! It doesn't work on kids and only picks up the RNA markers. RNA is responsible for copying parts of our DNA and then transcribing it into a specific protein, enzyme, etc. So the RNA information comes directly from the genes in the DNA. At this point there are 9 known genes that give us a predisposition for depression. This blood test monitors if these genes are present. But what I don't understand is that some of these genes are more likely to cause depression than others The results would only be a rough measuring stick of the likelihood that you have clinical depression. It does not take into accoount organic damage (such as from a car accident) where a certain part of the brain is affected and causes depression. What aboout brain tumors in those parts of the brain or as symptoms from the side effects of a medicine. It would not pick up any of those. What if you only have 2 of the markers ( which would yeild a low blood test value) but your life experiences had sent you down the path to depression?
OOOPS, my alloted time for ranting is over.
