Trying to find a psychiatrist is impossible!

I know that someone posted a link to doctors who have experience with weaning off antidepressants, but I can't find it.

Could you please repost it please? My eyesight is getting so bad I'm having trouble seeing the computer screen and I'm not good at searching the web.

I have been just sitting here looking for a doctor for days without luck  (This is me. All googlie-eyed)

Thank you,

Renee

Did you contact Dr. Daniel Carlat directly? I know you told me he isn't taking patients anymore, but perhaps his office can refer you to someone like him?

http://www.thecarlatreport.com/

There's also Dr. Peter Breggin, in Ithaca, NY.

http://breggin.com/i...d=111&Itemid=75

Contact his office for referrals.

Also, did you call your insurance co. back to tell them Carlat isn't taking patients and to ask for more referral names?

Here's some info on medication management psychiatrists in Boston:

I tried to contact Dr, Daniel Carlat via the "contact us" link on his website, but have not heard back.

I called my insurance company and asked for Psychiatrist in my area. I spoke with a woman who had a heavy accent that didn't know the difference between a psychiatrist and a social worker. Of the 5 names she gave me, 2 were therapists, 2 were doctors and 1 doesn't apparently exist.

I looked up the doctors on HealthGrades. The first doctor has terrible ratings and the second has no ratings. I called the second one a few days ago but have not heard back yet.

I recal there being someone in Newton, Ma that is supposed to help with disscontiuation, but I can't figure out who it was.

Thank you FN. You are amazing as always  :)

I just ordered Peter R. Breggin's book "Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal".

Should be an interesting read (If I had the concentration to read).

Hey, Girlie;) I ordered "Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal" along with "The Depression Cure" and they have sat for several weeks on the patio table, like I'm going to go outside in this lizard popping heat here and start reading, yeah right, I can barely see out of my right eye (another d/c side effect or Wellbutrin s/e, hmmm, flip a coin) and my concentration level is that of a gnat!

I do hope you get hooked up with a psych soon! This doctor hunt has been futile for me to date, Uurrgh:o

Thinking about you and sending good thoughts...hugs, Rebecca

Good luck are Rebecca!
I haven't been able to read in years due to concentration problems but my husband reads several hours a day :) and he reads fast!
If he wants hos wife back, he will read it. Knowing him the way I do, he will read it then research the topic and write his own book on how to train psych students on the dangers of this stuff. My husband is extremely smart. If there is a subject that interest him, he learns everything there is to know about it.... Who knows? Maybe I will get off this crap after all! :)

Wow, you are so blessed to have a husband that takes such an interest! You are one smart cookie also, must be a match made in heaven. Maybe after he reads it you could share a few pearls of wisdom or insight about the book? The closest I get to reading, other than links posted here which can lead me into hours of getting thoroughly confused, is reading reviews on Amazon about books I'm interested in!! I just have to believe that if I keep digging deep enough into this shit of discontinuation, I will find a pony in the heap and ride into the sunset peacefully!

Keep digging!
I said if my husband is INTERESTED. In something he learns everything there is to know about it. The hard part is getting him interested lol. He knows everything there is to know about semiconductors and how to manufacture them. He knows a ton about sound recording (music) and lately he has been into smoking meat (my personal favorite of his hobbies :) ). He is first responder wilderness certified and is going to get his personal trainer's certificate with my son next month.

I just need to get him interested in psychiatry ;)

I just saw this posted on my Facebook page.
I didn't mean to post it in this thread but it is interesting just the same.
You probably have already seen it but it is new to me.

Awesome article and loved the comments! Thanks, Renee, I have not 'seen it'...one of the reasons I got on my 'get off the drugs' tangent was after I read an article in the LA Times about the placebo effect being the same as taking the a-d's! So, here I am a seeker for alternative means to conquer the beast and your link gave me a big dose of hope! Maybe I should check out Peru with the Ayuhuaca experience!

Good read, now if I can just do ONE fricking thing in a positive direction for the day, I WILL feel better about myself;)

That is not the Dr I looked up from Newton but thank you FN. The one I'm thinking of is a woman.

I will find her somehow  :)
