My doctor put me on Cymbalta about five weeks ago.  I took a couple days worth of the 30 mg and he upped it to 60 mg.  I hate this drug.  I want to come off it.  The problem is I don't know how.

Do I decrease dosage by 5 percent a day or week?  I have read so many differing opinions.  I didnt know anything about the problems with discontinuation of the drug, so last Saturday I just stopped taking it.  By Wednesday I was crawling out my skin.  Brain and and  body zaps, crying.  I started researching this whole weaning process and took a 60 mg on Weds and today, Thursday.  I would like to start tapering tomorrow, but need a plan.....

Will it help matters that I was only on it five weeks?  This is so scary.

I went out and bought some Benadryl and Omega 3, as I heard that may help.

I look forward to hearing from you all tomorrow.  Thanks in advance.

Tanya

Hi, Tanya

Welcome to the forum;) If you look under the category 'Are You New Here,' under the Cymbalta Withdrawal Help and Support tab and look at the 'Topics' you will find 'Bead Counting,'. I think it is the 7th one down. It will give you different posts by members that have shared how to bead count and how many to drop a day, etc. I didn't do that, I found this forum after I was so sick in withdrawal and too stupid to understand the 'how to!'

Glad you went back on the 60mg to stabilize and then do a slow taper with the bead counting, I believe that since you were on it for only a month that will benefit you in your taper. Also, age and physical condition seem to be a an easier withdrawal based on the posts I've read. Are you on the generic or the brand Cymbalta?

You sound like one smart cookie;) as you already equipped your 'tool kit' with the Benadryl and Omega 3's!

What condition did your doctor prescribe the Cym for? Also, not a very smart move to titrate you up from 30mg to 60mg after 'a couple days!' Glad you 'hate the drug and want to get off it!' Fortunately, you have only been on it 5 weeks. We will do all we can to help you and support during your taper;). So happy you found us.

The others will welcome you shortly,,,I couldn't sleep, so wanted to send you a quick welcome and direct you to the bead counting topic;)

Blessings, Rebecca

Welcome, Tanya!

Gosh, you and CymSik were really doing the "night-shift thing," huh?

In addition to what Cym mentioned, you'll also want to have something on hand to handle any anxiety that arises, as it often does during withdrawal ... something like a benzo ...

Also, get your basic supplements to take ... see the "nutritional support" forum ...

Pop over to the thread just started by another new member, Violetta ... there's supplement and bead counting info there as well ... see my post about supplements, and the link I included to info on chelated magnesium and needing to check to see if it interacts with any other meds we're taking...

Violetta, like you, is just starting out with bead counting ... https://www.cymbalta...-i-am-new-here/

Keep us posted!
