Trying to get off Cymbalta without taking prisoners!

Posted 13 October 2014 - 03:59 PM

OMG, OK, so 6 weeks ago I dosed down from 40mg to 30mg, as per my Doc's taper schedule. I was OK the first 2 weeks, but weeks 3-6 were rough. We revised my dose down schedule, added a few neurotransmitter supplements to help with the dosing down, and I felt stable last week. I decided to go with the 5%/month taper down by bead counting. Yesterday I removed 2 beads, and today, 3. I alREADY feel the withdrawal symptoms. (Now that I know what they feel like.)

good GOD! At this rate, it could take me to 2020 to get off this stuff.

Just needed a little vent. Thanks for listening!

Jealbreacht, please don't worry how long it takes to get off this drug. What we know we have is time. Going at a slower pace will be much easier to handle. If at anytime you have a difficult time with your symptoms, stop and hold to get stabilized. Once you feel stabilized, you can then continue to remove the beads. Try and not think of how fast you want to come off. It may be to fast for you. You are doing a great job listening to what your body is telling you. Please continue to listen to your body. This way you will know when to stop/slow down on your taper to stabilize....

Keep us posted...and vent all you like!

Hey JB

Take your time!  We have one member who could only remove 1 bead/day...   she made it and so will you!!

Please don't set a time line - that is the biggest mistake we all make - it is what it is - and it WILL end! :)

Love, hugs and prayers,

Liz

Well, jealbrecht, sounds like your brain / body has sent you a message ... loud and clear ....... it wants you to slow down ... so, that's progress ... you've learned what your body can't handle, and know you need to adjust your weaning schedule ...

Maybe go back up a bead or two, wait until the symptoms subside ... then maybe try taking out just 2 beads every two or three days ... leave a few days between beads removed ... you'll find a pace/schedule that will suit your brain / body ... there's no fixed formula, it really does differ for each of us ... as Fishinghat says, "you'll just have to play with it a little" ....

You are most definitely going to get off of this stuff ... as TFL mentioned, EquusWoman discovered she could only handle removing one bead a day ... and she counted down the days right here with us ... she's off now, and back to riding her horse (well, she injured her knee recently, so might be taking a break from riding) ... but the point is, she got off ...

And you will too! :)

I am here as a member of this forum to announce that I am officially off Cymbalta!!!!!Yes it was hell, but I went to detox and they made a mistake on my 60 and gave me 30 and I was so busy, I didn't notice...from there I came home and cut it in half and in 2 weeks, was completely free of the monster drug, beware, there are more out there..same problems...read the info...if you see,

Patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), both adult and pediatric, may experience worsening of their depression and/or the emergence of suicidal ideation and behavior (suicidality) or unusual changes in behavior, whether or not they are taking antidepressant medications, and this risk may persist until significant remission occurs. Suicide is a known risk of depression ( and I felt this way all the time) and certain other psychiatric disorders, and these disorders themselves are the strongest predictors of suicide.( Truth: if you try to quit) There has been a long-standing concern, however, that antidepressants may have a role in inducing worsening of depression (duh..hello) and the emergence of suicidality in certain patients during the early phases of treatment.( which was all the time for me..plus non stop crying) Pooled analyses of short-term placebo-controlled trials of antidepressant drugs (SSRIs and others) showed that these drugs increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 18–24) with major depressive disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders. Short-term studies did not show an increase in the risk of suicidality with antidepressants compared to placebo in adults beyond age 24; there was a reduction in risk with antidepressants compared to placebo in adults aged 65 and older.

carolberri,

congrats on your cymbalta free status! so what types of symptoms of withdrawal/discontinuation do you still have? when was your last day of taking a dose? what was the detox strategy? well, other than the mistake of giving you 30's when you should have had 60's.

Carolberri,

Welcome!  We're happy you found us!

Wow - that was some quick down dosing!  Congratulations!

I gather that you are rather young (compared to all of us 50 and overs who have more withdrawal symptoms) due to the rapid way in which you did this and you write as though you are doing well.  I certainly hope so!

Please feel free to post what you are feeling or if you have any questions, ask away!

Liz :)

Hi Carolberri, welcome!

Wow, yours is an inspiring success story! Thanks for sharing, and please stay here and keep posting on your experience / knowledge.

Do you have any research or other articles on what you explained that you could share with us? If so, please do ... start a new thread for them over in the "Cymbalta in the News" forum ... it's where we tend to put all our "researchy" items for easier finding...
