Hey everyone,

As a Cymbalta user for the past 7 years at 60 mg - I decided To discontinue about 8 months ago.

I had tried previously but I couldnt stick with it - it was basically completely debilitating.

So i learned my lesson and have tapered very slowly. 60 - 40 - 30 - 20...

I had to stay steady at 20mg for a couple of months because the physical symptoms were becoming too much.

Intense body aches and joint pain mixed with constant digestive upset. Low grade fever etc... At least the heightened depression hasnt kicked in as it did with my first attempt. No zaps either.

I finally was able to start to taking out beads of the 20mg capsules and have been doing one extra a day for a few weeks.

Yet I seem to have hit a threshold - any more than 16 beads removes causes major symptom flares.

I was wondering if anyone has any similar experience and may have some advice - should i just plateau for a while at 16 beads out / should I go up one day / down another? Ive seen many techniques - yet I realize I am terribly sensitive to this drug, so any help would be appreciated.

Supplements that I take - 5HTP, Gaba, L-Theanine, Fish Oil, Turmeric and some antacids - Nexium and Zantac.

Also on 450 of Welbutrin and 2mg X 2 of lorazepam. Those are next!

I am prepared for the long process, yet as you all know it gets really trying

Thanks!

Hi NYC

I would suggest that if you are comfortable at 16 beads, you should stay at 16 beads for at least a week. Then try 15 beads for at least a week. See how you feel and listen to your body. You may be able to drop after 5 days instead of a week( for example).
There is no rush. It is not a race.
Many people fint the last 20 beads are the most difficult. I would not go up and down. Just slow and steady!

Best of health to you and be gentle on your body!

Hello NYC,

Renee said it all, no up and no down every other day.

You have come a far way, and with much knowledge about how to do this.

One smart cookie. You are at less than 2mg, pretty good.

Im really tempted to use this hydrocodone pill I have - as I am totally miserable.

I dont have addiction problems with painkillers - but often I feel like crap when they wear off!

Tylenol is not cutting it anymore... I dont know what to do.

NYC, know nothing about this med.

I know that TFL uses it for pain. Maybe pm her. She may be able to advise you.

Hey NYC,

Welcome!  I'm here and yes, I use Hydrocodone for pain from fibro and arthritis.  I have used it through the withdrawal/discontinuation - if you are in a good deal of pain, take it!

It has really helped me through this, as my pain has become worse since I am off the poison drug.

Any questions, please ask!  So happy that you have found us!

Liz

Thank you for your advice. Much appreciated.

Another query, has anyone tried acupuncture for dealing with the side effects of withdrawal? Any successes?

This is one I haven't heard of...

Not to say it hasn't been tried, but I have never seen any post regarding this

I swear by slow tapering in the end.  It feels ridiculous that one bead can make a difference - but for some of us it does.  My last six weeks of tapering was one bead every 3 or 4 days because faster than that I was miserable.

Slow and steady!

Amy,

Great advice!  (Wish I had done that instead of the cold turkey thing - man, what a trip!)

I don't know if you knew Equus Woman, a member here, but she did her entire weaning by removing just 1 extra bead/day.  She has been off the poison for several months now, but she could not reduce by any more than that.  So it proves it can be done!

I know that your sharing here will be of much help to "newbies" who will continue to come to the forum...thanks so much!

Liz
