Hi littlemrnofear
Atarax (hydroxyzine) is used for anxiety and allergic skin conditions and is suppose to be sedating. However, while it can be somewhat sedating for some it isn't for everyone. I can take it and will not feel sleepy at all. I don't know what other kinds of issues you have had on it but many of us have used it for the anxiety associated with discontinuing Cymbalta.
I'm sure there are others here who will jump in with some suggestions on how to treat insomnia.
I'm sure no one wants to be put on the benzo Temazepam like I was. It works short term only and is extremely addictive. If on for too long (more than 14 days) it slowly stops working and the withdrawals were not pleasant.
What else have you tried for your insomnia? Melatonin? Any of the relaxing teas?
Take care of you

I feel coming off the AD is important, so I take Ambien to get that much needed rest. Later, I hope to stop the Ambien.
I've already progressed to sleeping without the TV, which is a major feat! I think the AD caused night terrors which I no longer have.
Good luck, it WILL get better!
