I started on Cymbalta 40mg back in February 2015 and increased to 60mg in May. 3 days ago I quit cold turkey because once I upped the dosage I started having severe diarrhea. Since quitting I have been experiencing withdrawl symptoms of dizziness/lightheadedness. Anyone have insight into how long I can expect withdrawl to last when I was only on the medication for less than 6 months?

Hi and welcome.

6 months is short-term exposure to be sure, but at 6 months the drug is fully uploaded and withdrawal should be taken seriously.

How long, and how severe are questions that can't be accurately answered-- everybody is different. It would be unfair to plant a suggestion in your mind as to what is likely to happen over the next number of weeks, but things could get more difficult and remain that way for some time before improvement arrives.

Some people have easy cold turkey withdrawals (hopefully this is you), and some people experience severe and debilitating symptoms for 6-8 weeks followed by a rough few months, and gradually seeing light at the end of the tunnel toward 6 months. It varys tremendously.

Since you just quit 3 days ago, you could consider re-instating to the dosage where you feel stable-- remain there for a couple of weeks, and then wean off slowly. Consider weaning off over 3 months or so. Should you decide to go this route, we can help you put together a simple regimen to help you keep the symptoms at bay as you come off the med.

Take care.

Now that I have been off this poison for over 6 years, I hope to help others as they join us

Welcome mcneggin!

I am happy that you have found us and TM has really given you the right scoop!  I agree that you should reinstate at perhaps the 40mg until you feel stable.

Please consider weaning off slowly at that point and we have those here who can set up a workable schedule for you.

I have been off for 17 months now, but made the mistake of going off cold turkey and all of last year was miserable.  Please don't do this!!

I wish you luck and please come back to let us know your decision.

Liz
