This is an interesting article and may explain how omega 3 assists with Cymbalta withdrawal.

A very interesting read fishinghat.

I always said that those mega doses of Omega 3 were helping me with the brain zaps and other symptoms of withdrawal.

I stopped taking it for awhile then read about the anxiety benefits of it so went back to using the fish oil supplements. The ones that were plant based did not help near enough. I take 3000mg per day, one capsule with each meal. If I run out before I get some more I notice a rise in anxiety within 2 or 3 days.

My side effects is only occasional heartburn which is easily dealt with by eating a few pieces of fruit.

Now if only it would work for my flashbacks from my PTSD ~ post traumatic stress disorder

Read so many painful stories on here and offering others support while trying to heal myself from cymbalta and other antidepressents.

Fishinghat, absolutely great article.  More and more benefits from Omega 3. I always have to keep in mind and listen to my body when it comes to the Omega 3 supplements.  I tend to east tuna quite often during the week, therefore I will skip my supplements on those days.

Hey all!

I must be really out of it as I never have taken any Omega 3...

When my son was diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Dr. told him that fish oil can be a contributing factor. My son had been with Metagenics and been taking it for years.  He stopped it immediately.

Don't know if that is helpful to anyone, but wanted to mention it.

Some quick research on the subject shows a lot of doctors and groups debunking that study showing that it was very misleading. The same group did another study in 2011 that was also dismissed as misleading according to a few doctors.

I will be interested in what you find on the subject fishinghat.

Lady Nancy got it right, What a war is festering over this issue.

A couple points of interest. This is based on documentation of what the people said they eat. Memories are very subjective. It also compared the omega 3 levels in people who already had prostate cancer to those who did not. It did NOT address if the prostate cancer or treatment method could be causing the change in Omega 3 levels.

In addition, there is a simple blood test called PSA that can detect prostate cancer in its early stages. It is recommended that men get this test once per year if over 50. Most drs will do it twice per year as well as a manual exam just to be safe. If you look at the increased rate of prostate cancer mentioned in the original test it is still fairly small (I am not wanting to belittle any increase risk of cancer) but with routine testing it would be caught early anyway.

The good news is that there is an ongoing test of around 8,000 males, all on the same set diet who will be studied for 8 years to see if those with the omega 3 in their diet have high prostate cancer occurance then those who don't. This should provide a much clearer picture.

Only mentioned this because Craig was Stage 3 when it was detected and he had not had any testing in at least 2 years as he had moved from LA to San Diego and did not find a new Dr. in that amount of time.

His prostate was removed at U of SD facility and went through radiation. He was only about 51 or 52 at the time and I'm just happy that he is still with us.  He went through hell.
