I was only on cymbalta (60mg) for 5 weeks, prescribed for nerve pain. As it wasn't helping and was making me really drowsy, I asked to be taken off of it, and tapered down 30mg to 20mg then off over 3 weeks. I was expecting side effects, and I got them, the worst being insomnia and brain fog, but I just wanted off. Now, after being totally off for 9 days, I seem to have developed depression, which was never an issue for me before. I cry at the drop of a hat, and for no apparent reason. In addition, I've developed a really stiff neck. Can this be because of the cymbalta? can I really get new withdrawal effects as late as a week after completely stopping? There's no way I'm going back on to taper more slowly, but I'd like to know how long to expect this!

Welcome to the forum, am I ever glad that you were on this only five weeks.
No going back, of course. All your symptoms are due to that s**t.
How long? Can't say, but not too long. Five weeks on, plus three weeks of tapering. Off for nine days. Fishinghat, what do you say?
My guess is that within a few weeks, all will be over. If you are younger than fifty, it will be easier
For sure, all that is from cymbalta, the devil's drug. Others will chime in. You will be OK. A bit of time, patience and all will be over.
Can't believe they still prescribe this, hang in there Betsy, we are here for you! Don't forget to check the box and to your upper right to receive instant notice to your topic.

Like Gail said...Typical withdrawal symptoms. Be aware with going cold turkey it may get worse before getting better. It is usually the 8 to 12th week before you start seeing some small, and I mean small, improvements. NOW, having said that with you only being on it 5 weeks I would not expect it to be as severe.

Thanks for the responses. I just found out that the kenalog injection I was given this week to address the nerve pain (i have a nerve trapped in a surgical scar) may also be to blame for these new symptoms. The crying started the next day. Apparently, kenalog can have some evil side effects as well. Oh joy. Cymbalta withdrawals and kenalog side effects. This is going to be interesting...
