Hi everyone! I´m so glad to find this website... I was desperate and this surely gave me some hope!

I´m new here and as I'm not a native speaker, you may notice some flaws on my messages... I hope you understand.

I´m living in the USA for a year as part of my PhD, then I´ll came back to my country. I have fibro and having been taking this poison for 2 years and a half. The initial dosage was wrong , according to the last doctor I talked too. He said his colleague should have introduced it as 30mg then increase it soon to 60mg.

So, I came here with the dosage of 60mg, since february. I decided to stop taking it for several reasons: I stay away from the bathroom (for number 2...) at least every 4 days... My blood pressure has increased a lot and the doctors couldn´t find a cause for that, as I´m 32, so they think it´s because of the drug; and the last but not the least, I wanna have a baby, it´s time for that... i´m 32.

Though I´m a nurse (which are the worst patients, I must admit), I reduced the dosage for 30mg and i´m now living all the nightmare that you´ve described through the posts: dizziness, nausea and vomiting; blurred vision; fatigue; vivid nightmares; I´ve been crying for days without any major reason...

To sum up, I wanna know how long I must reduce the beads... as far as I understood, i must open the capsule, remove 3 beads... then 6 beads... but do you mean a daily basis reducing?

I hope someone helps me soon, can´t wait to start the beading count... I wanna highlight the fact that I can´t afford a physician here and my insurance is only for emergencies. Besides,  I don´t wanna use prozac... I´ve done that for years too...unless it is extremely necessary!

Anyway, hope hearing from you very soon!

Thanks for having me!!!

Ferodrigues.

Now that I have been off this poison for over 6 years, I hope to help others as they join us

Welcome Ferodrigues!

You have certainly come to the right place - first let me ask you a few questions...

Did you actually go cold turkey off of 30mg?  If so, how long ago?

I am one of those who dove off of 60mg cold turkey and spent the next year in total hell. I am not the expert on bead counting since I did not know about it until I had been off this poison too long.  I was also so happy to find this site and all of the wonderful people here who helped me to get through that year!

I have now been off for 2 1/2 yrs but have stayed on here to hopefully help others, like yourself.

Your understanding of the bead counting seems sound - yes, you reduce daily unless your symptoms are terrible and then just stay at that point until you are stable.  Then you can begin counting again where you left off.

This is not a race to the finish so time and patience are the words of the game.  Everyone is different and some can do this rather quickly and we have one member who could only increase by one bead a day, but she did it!!

There are others here who can probably give you better advice about the bead counting - all I can tell you is to drink lots of water and be kind to yourself.  If you are tired, rest.

Please keep us posted!

Liz

Hey Liz, thank you for your prompt response.

I took 30mg for 2 years and have been taking 60mg for seven months...(the doctor increased the dosage before I came here, according to him, as I have fibromyalgia, the cold weather would make things worse). I´ve already stopped it in the past (the 30mg dosage) for a surgery, but I didn´t go cold turkey , just had dizziness, as far as I remember, probably because I was taking other medications for neuropathic pain... Then I returned to Cymbalta after my recovery. It´s important to tell you that I take Velija, from the laboratory Libbs... I don´t know if you have this generic form of Duloxetine here in US.

Recently I went cold turkey after a week taking the 60mg a day and skipping the following day... On Monday I decided to take just 30mg... and the hell really came to my bedroom... couldn´t sleep, sweating a lot, chilling... Had terrible nightmares... And completely changed my mood, went from a strong person that is leaving far from the family for a year to a miserable crying chick...

The supply I brought from my country (enough for a year) is just available in my country as 30mg dosages. So, I had to take 2 capsules a day to complete de 60mg. I guess it is going to be more difficult to reduce the dosage, every capsule has 86 beads... I started to reduce it today. I will keep you updated on my progress, but I have to admit it is going to be hard. Today, I had diarrhea, chilling, dizziness and it´s been hard to work on the computer.

I´m so happy to hear from you and to know that even though you´re not facing this challenge anymore you keep helping people! That´s so kind!

Thank you for your support!

Fernanda.

5 months on cymbalta, scary side effects, to get help and to return the favor if I can.

Fernanda, hello!

Welcome to our forum. The first thing to know is that you cannot skip a day meaning every other day. You need cymbalta, generic or not, in your system. It has a real short half life, meaning that your body needs it every day to not go in withdrawal.

Generics are generics here or whatever country. It is the same drug as Cymbalta.

In your place, I would not bead count now, unless you are stable on your 60 mg or 30 mg

Many do drop from 60 to 30 with no problems. And I think that, doing the every other day method is what brought you those problems.

You may want to try settling with 30 mg every day and see if it's better. Give it a couple of days to see, if not, reinstate the 60mg for a while. Then you bead count.

One thing for sure, you don't want to go cold turkey. Liz has been there and so many others. No one recommends this.

I hope this makes sense for you Fernanda, if not, ask questions again. Others will come by surely. By the way, English is not my primary language either. Come back as often as you wish as we all know that this may sound complicated for the moment.

Thank you for your message. It sounds more reasonable to me that I should first try to drop from 60mg to 30mg, thank you for this important information. When I first tried to drop to 30mg, I didn´t feel so bad. After a while that I take the 30mg, I start feeling better, so I think it should work dropping it. If not, I try coming back to 60mg...

Many thanks for your precious information!

Ferodrigues

I´m on my third day taking 30mg instead of 60mg, I feel fine, no major adverse effects since this moment.

I´m glad I could at least drop from 60mg to 30mg.

Give it another week and then you may be able to start bead counting. So far so good.

Hi guys!

It's been two months... Still have 10 beads...

Firstly, I dropped from 60mg to 30mg, then started bead count. From 86 beads, I still have 10 ahead... It's been almost two weeks that I'm keeping the 10 beads.

I'm feeling dizzy sometimes, having hot flashes during the day and night and I an urgency to eat sugar (I noted this because I'm not a sugar person, I prefer salt).

But... right on track!

Fernanda.

Fernanda, Great!!

You are really taking it slow and it is paying off for you. It won't be much longer now.
