I have been on Cymbalta for a number of years now.  I have experienced the brain zaps frequently if I am but a few hours late in taking it.  However, since it worked so well for my depression, I continued with it.  I began taking the "generic" Duloxetine about 3 years ago.

For the last couple of years I have also been experiencing severe  - I am talking doubled over, in agony pain.  They are random and I have never been able to determine a pattern for them.  I have had every test imaginable to determine the cause - only to be turned away from every gastroenterologist, internist, GP I have seen.  No one has been able to find the source.

Last week my son, after reading about Duloxetine online asked if I had considered this to be the source of my pain.  OMG! I was shocked to think that it could be the source of the most agonizing pain I have every had.  I immediately started decreasing the amount of "poison balls" in my pills and will wean myself off this poison regardless of what it takes.

Has anyone else had this type of pain?  It is in the upper stomach region and the attacks can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours (or more).  I would appreciate any information any of you can provide.

Hello PNC,

Welcome to the forum.

You know, anything is possible with antidepressants, Specially Cymbalta.
But for myself, I have not been through this problem. In my almost 3 years on the forum, I don't recall having hear or read about this.

It doesn't mean that it's not related though. Fishinghat, our specialist in the matter, is more apt to answer your question. For sure, he will chime in shortly. Stay tuned!

Hi PNC

Is there a correlation between when you take the pill and when the pain hits? I am also digging into the medical literature to see what I can find.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look into this for me.  I still am not sure there is a correlation...but as the doctors can find no other cause, and I know I am not losing my mind - I believe there is a good chance there is.   I am still going to get off this stuff...as well as it works for my depression and it does work well for that...I just can't keep putting this in my body.  I do have an appt with the doc and will certainly talk with her about this as well.

As for when I take the pill...there is no correlation.  I take them every morning (60 mg).  But the pains are so random...morning, afternoon, night, when asleep, when working, when relaxing...there is no pattern that I have been able to determine.  A friend of mine (PhD in nutrition) suggested that it is an allergy to the binders used in the drug.  I just have to find out the cause of these pains...they are intolerable...

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help.  When the doctors dismiss you - it tends to leave one feeling very isolated.
