I need help and I know I will feel better if I can offer help to others

Posted 24 April 2013 - 02:39 PM

OMG - that is crazy. I really feel sorry for the poor person who gets put on this med and trusts that the doctor is doing the best thing. If that person doesn't have internet access or anything like that they have no idea what they could be in for.

One thing I really wonder about is they say that antidepressants can increase suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children, teens, and young adults, but it does not say why. Is it a hormonal thing? If that is so, then why don't they warn women who are in their forties and fifties who are also going thru a change in hormones?

I know a few of us have had this kind of response to Crapalta and I think with all of us our doctors acted like it was a complete surprise.

There are people who are helped by Cymbalta, but they won't be prepared for discontinuing any better than we were when the time comes that they need to change meds or stop taking antidepressants.

What was your doctor thinking????

Why do they treat this freakin crap like it is a wonder drug and it can fix anything.

I imagine your Chronic fatique causes the depression and then the depression causes the muscle pain so would need to deal with the Chronic fatique so then the other stuff would probably go away.

I know that when I am really lacking sleep so feel so tired that it's hard to feel anything but down.

It's really terrible that with all the problems we each already had that this drug has made things worse.

I know your sleep problems are terrible:( so you know more than anyone how rotten bad quality sleep and exhaustion impacts on every area of the body/mind. it is very sad that all of us, who each have a major problem with pain, or depression, or whatever, have to go through this on top. I don't blame my doctor so much as I know he was trying to help, but Eli Lilly more than anything

I didn't blame my gp (general Physican) either until my appt on Friday.

He told me that SSRI/SNRI Discontinuation Syndrome is a crock besides that I wasn't on Crapalta long enough to have side effects (funny even Eli Lilly says tapering is required after 5 weeks to avoid serious side effects).

He also told me that the problems I have now could not possibly be caused by Crapalta (again funny but Eli Lilly has listed all my current problems as possible side effects which can occur during the first few weeks or later in treatment).

I asked him to look at the recent information published by other doctors online and he actually got mad at me. He also prescribed 2 more meds for me. I just had an allergic reaction to the last one he gave me so here try two more. Yeah right....... I don't think so.

Needless to say once I get to see the psychiatrist he is sending me to I have to find a new gp unless I can get the psychiatrist to tell him what meds (if any) I am to be on.

oh my God:( yes drs really are a matter of luck in this. some are clued up on side effects/withdrawal protocols, some seem so blind to it even though

the evidence is right there in front of them! I have had one or two like this at times, and switched gps pronto. I know it's hard for you though given the

distance to travel etc. after an allergic reaction you certainly need time to clean out before they should be prescribing anything else! it's madness.

I have had a doctor call me a liar to my face about something so I know what you're going through and you definitely need a new doctor and good luck with the psychiatrist I never did. All my psychiatrist ever did was give me one pill after another one prescription after another try this try this. he 008524960028599told me I ran the whole gambit of psych drugs none of them did a damn thing they didn't even try to talk to me to try to work things out just looked at me and say you want to try this again or this. Felt like a real guinea pig ! Some of these doctors don't have a lick of sense in their head and they're supposed to be smart I mean they're smart enough to be a doctor but like I've seen many times intelligence doesn't mean you have common sense ! Ok through ramping. I just get so disgusted. 😖

I just don't understand why the medical profession is so stuck on the idea that there is a pill for every possible problem. Did any of the pill pusher type doctors ever stop and think maybe I need to figure out exactly what is really wrong with my patient?

There are certain illnesses that require medication yes, but when you don't know what the problem is pills meds may be the wrong thing and may make the problem worse.

And yes chimera, giving me new meds that I haven't taken before after an allergic reaction to a med is plain stupid. Even the slightest sensitivity to even one ingredient could cause a massive allergic reaction which is why I am not taking any new meds. I didn't tell him that though.

He even questioned that I had an allergic reaction at all. Excuse me doctor I have a list of over 10 drugs and drug groups that I have had allergic reactions to (four put me in the hospital). I am also deathly allergic to bee and wasp stings, tree nuts and a certain type of spider bite, not to mention the other assorted allergies. I think I know an allergic reaction when I am having one.

Maybe I should be looking for a Certified Naturopathic Doctor.

Take care all

Not so bad really Kirk as it limits what a doctor can prescribe for me.

But yes in some ways it is rather annoying. I completely stay away from sick people as I can't afford to get an infection of any type. At present there is only 1 antibiotic that I know is safe for me to take.

I cannot take an aspirin at all and acetaminophen I can use for only 2 days. Ibuprophen is ok so far as I can take the gelcaps but the capsules give me severe heartburn and I can't take any OTC's for heartburn.

That is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Fun stuff lol.

Thank you Kirk what a nice thing to say.

After the disaster at the doctor's on friday I wasn't doing so well or feeling much of anything but slowly today the fight is coming back. The one major lesson that life has taught me is that I have to take care of myself as no one else is qualified to know what makes me feel best. I think that The Crapalta made me forget that.

And although I often need some help along the way, if I really pay attention to how something (person, situation, food, med) makes me feel then I will know if it is right or wrong for me. That is my choice to make no matter who it is that is giving me advice.

That doesn't always make me the most popular person. I also haven't always made the right choices because it takes a long time to learn to understand oneself and recognize what is best. In the end its all about how I feel about myself and whether I am happy with the person I am.

Whoa heavy stuff - maybe I am getting better. I do know that I still have a long way to go as far as dealing with all the things that The Crapalta has done to me. Only difference now is that I am going to do it my way, not the way a certain doctor thinks I should.

Take care of you
