Good things: weight is going down, bp is normal again, no foggy brain, but because I still have some anxiety doc put me on Prozac. Just today, about a month in, I couldn’t take it anymore. Mood swings and anxiety were coming faster and faster, hard and scary. Called doc, told him and he just switched me to lexapro. Hope that that one goes more gentle. They also suggested Abilify, to stabilize mood. Anyone here once that combo? Lexapro and Abilify?
Can you still enjoy a glass of wine or no?

Good luck to all on your journeys

I was on lexapro for several years and it seemed to work well for me. I took it for anxiety and panic attacks. Unlike Paxil it didn’t seem to remove all my cares but it kept things at bay. Only downside I experienced was weight gain. Good luck!

Abilify in not often used by the psychiatrist where I go as it has its own nasty withdrawal on top of the antidepressant withdrawal and its efficacy is questionable. I asked about it once when going through Cymbalta withdrawal and they said it would be a last resort.

I agree with CJ, I was on Lexapro with good success twice but then when I passed 60 was advised not to use it. (Yes, I am older than dirt).

How come you cannot use Lexapro when you are on that age? By the way you are NOT OLD!

Hi Kim,

Of course our boy isn't old! He still wears g strings that I made for him last year. Leopard models are his favorite. He puts them on when he mows the lawn to impress his lovely wife!

Just thought it would be good to laugh once in a while!!!!

"In August 2011, the FDA announced, “Citalopram causes dose-dependent QT interval prolongation. Citalopram should no longer be prescribed at doses greater than 40 mg per day”. A further clarification issued in March 2012 restricted the maximum dose to 20 mg for subgroups of patients, including those older than 60 years and those taking an inhibitor of cytochrome P450 2C19.7.[36]"   Wiki

The same limitations were placed on Lexapro not to exceed 20 mg if over 60 and not to exceed 10 mg if the patient has a history of cardiac arrhythmias. I have had transient arrhythmias since I was 13.

For those that may not know, Citalopram (Celexa) and Lexapro are identical compounds but one molecule twist counter clockwise and the other twists clockwise.

Fishinghat, would you say that Celexa is safe at 20mg for people not suffering the above conditions?

I ask because my brother and his wife have been on Celexa 20 mg for years. Both are 66 years old. Would it be safe for them to go on 30mg? Thank you sir.

Safe is the key word there Gail. I am assuming they have no history of an erratic heart beat. Going to 30 mg would put them at risk for developing heart arrhythmias. How dangerous that would be would also depend on the condition of their hearts, what type of heart irregularity they develop, weight, eating habits, etc. but it is not recommended by the FDA.
