There are blood tests to determine if someone is suffering from low carnitine.

Just been over this new addition of amino acid. Works for MDD patients - and in particular for treatment resistant patients. All tests show it is as good, or better than, an AD alternative. It has worked well as monotherapy, and has far less severe side effects compared to AD "therapy".

Just a summation, but you can read for yourself. Such a shame that not more is known about these things and it takes the likes of Hat and myself to root through all the various publications to find possible alternatives.

But that said, this is the stuff that drives the likes of Hat and myself forward most days :)

Thanks so much for all the access to research. It is nice to know it is here when I need it. Just like you guys. I was gone for nearly a year and when I came back about to hit rock bottom again; it was like I never left. I had forgotten how this place would often get me through the day.

Still not sure how the Lexapro is doing yet. There are days where I can tell a difference. Where smiling is easier for me. Then there are days I can't tell at all. In am trying daytime dosing now.

"In am trying daytime dosing now."

Please go careful here Raven. You are in early stages and messing with the timing of your medication is not a good idea. Once it has settled, there will be little difference in the time you take it due to the long half life. Unless you have a good reason for changing, I would stick the one schedule as it will take a few days to adjust each time you change the time you take it. I speak of experience having done just that a few times during my 4 months on Lexapro.

I am day 9 off the 10mg, and have been doing relatively well, but today it has hit so hard. I am in bed, shaking, dizzy, nauseous and depression has wormed its way in. At a real low - but I can't go back on it as the physical symptoms won't improve. Was doing so well during the week too...

IUN:

Thank you for your advice. I went back to the evening dosing last night. I actually missed like a day and a half which sucker.

I am tired right now, but I think it is just from all we have been through already this week.

All I ask for us everyone's prayers as we travel a hard road right now.

Bless you Raven - you will be in thoughts and prayers this end.

it is so easy to think one dose, or one time would be a quick fix, of a little experiment, but the truth of the matter is that it can be very nasty territory.

Keep in touch...

As I can see, we are mostly all going through a banana phase. Fishinghat? No bananas for you I guess.

I just invented that, I like it. We would need a virtual chapel on our site so we can go when things beginning to smell bananas or Anytime.

Fishinghat & IUN:

I am coming on about 2 weeks being on the Lexapro by my calculations. I already have trouble sleeping as it is. At least when I am supposed to.🙄

Trying to get set in night dosing to see how that works. The first night I took it, I slept better. However this weekend has been rough on me. We have had a lot going on so I am unsure if the med can be causing it. I know I am looking at possible side effects from the medicine.

Today I can't stay awake. I feel incredibly drowsy. However I like that it helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. I only wake up maybe once as opposed to normally several times. So, I like that it helps me sleep better at night. The things is that I have set my phone to have me take it at 10pm in the evening. Last night I was up until 1am as well as the night before.

It appears that it keeps me awake then knocks me out. Sounds weird huh? I looked up side effects and wanted to be sure I didn't miss anything. I also wondered as the hubby and I were discussing...Should I take it earlier in the evening. Would this help with not problems including the drowsiness in the daytime. The medication hangover as it were. Please give me your input.

Lexapro side effects:
drowsiness,
dizziness,
sleep problems (insomnia),
nausea,
upset stomach,
gas,
heartburn,
constipation,
weight changes,
dry mouth,
yawning,
ringing in the ears,
decreased sex drive,
impotence, or
difficulty having an orgasm.

Blessed Be,
Raven

Raven,

Sleep problems are very high up on the list of Lexapro side effects. I have been reading nothing but Lexapro posts on forums about this for a long time since my own battle with it - and as you know, I have had issues of waking too early every day this week.

Drowsiness is also very common with most AD medication, and should ease in the next couple of weeks, although I have seen many cases where fatigue and dizziness in particular, can last a good 3 months or more before passing. Maybe I was too hasty with quitting after 2 and a half months, but if anything, it was getting worse and I was not prepared to keep going knowing I had a pending withdrawal.

Looking at that list, I can probably tick off around 60%+, but then I am very sensitive to these things.

When they "knock you out", this is about when they are hitting full blood level, but odd that they will keep you awake before hand as it takes time to get into the blood in the first place. However, there is no harm in trying to pull your dose forward such that the full blood level coincides with your time to sleep.

Any other questions please ask. Again, sincerely hope this works for you - and keep in mind that 2 weeks is still very much early days.

Lexapro had a slow assimilation rate at first and spikes about an hour and a half after taking it. I would suggest taking it an hour or two earlier.

Thank you so much Hat. I too find it odd that it picks me up before it knocks me out. I too am the 1 in 5 as it were. If certain things only happen to 1 in 5 people, then I am usually the 1 out of the 5🙄

So, bedtime for me is normally between 10:00 & 11:00pm. So around 8:30 or 9:00 in the evening any work. I will try that tonight.

My continuing notes on depression continue with items that can make depression worse.

Inhibition of dopamine release by melatonin has been demonstrated in specific areas of the mammalian central nervous system (hypothalamus, hippocampus, medulla-pons, and retina).

Note - This would indicate that patients with depression may want to limit their use of melatonin due to possible lowering of dopamine and increased depression.

Depressants (Make depression worse)

Oxalic acid is found in members of the spinach family and cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts, chives and lamb's quarters are high in oxalates, as are sorrel and parsley. Rhubarb leaves contain about 0.5% oxalic acid.

Can cause depression, lack of minerals, kidney stones, and more. Cooking does not affect oxalic acid. People with kidney disease, a history of kidney stones or suffer from depression should avoid these foods.

Other things that can increase depression are...

Aspartame
Gluten
High Fat Dairy
Sugar
alcohol
Trans fats
Sodium
Caffiene
Pesticide residue on foods
GHB
Organic solvents (paint, varnish, stains, cleaning solvents, paint thinner, etc).

Well done Raven!

Interesting point about the link between dopa and the melatonin Hat. Good to have a heads up.

Pain if it will help me sleep these extra hours and also gives me this side effect - it'll be just the IUN luck cycle!

Do not dismiss these blood tests. Many (a dozen or two?) have found their cause of resistant depression/anxiety by doing these tests.

A common source is having had your gall bladder removed. This causes depression which does not respond to typical antidepressants.

Well, considering we lost it as of yesterday, I am not sure. He can't have the catheter epidural now😔

He meets with a lawyer on Tuesday. It turns out that he was let go 2 months to the day of his surgery & one month to the day of his return to work.

My son needs his ADHD meds and I need mine. Thanks for all the prayers.
