Am trying to get off Cymbalta 30mg and wondering about brain zaps.

Hi,

Just wanted to add my experience with Prozac - I was on cymbalta for over a year or two, and on celexa for 8 years prior to that. I could not wean myself off cymbalta and none of my doctors could offer any good advice. I did some research and found there are basically three ways to wean off it: 1. Crush the cymbalta up and mix it with a measured glass of juice or other liquid then reduce the amount of that mixture you take by day or by week. 2. Ask your doctor to prescribe a liquid form of cymbalta and reduce your dosage daily, weekly or monthly, whatever works for you. 3. Take Prozac - either one 20mg dose or a course of 20mg each day for several weeks. I did two weeks of Prozac and stopped my cymbalta the day I started Prozac. I had a few rough days but am off all drugs now for about five months. I feel ok - have a lot of my emotions back. I've been trying to reframe a lot of the negative thoughts I have on a daily basis and that is helping a lot. Also got my sex life back for the most part.

Glad to hear you've managed to get off.

Just wanted to clarify that the crushing and mixing with juice method should NEVER, EVER be used with the Cymbalta capsules which contain little beads. The beads are slow release, and although you can take them with water etc if you're desperate and can't get your hands on empty capsules, they MUST reach your stomach undamaged.

I am currently on Cymbalta after many years of other drugs including Zoloft, Wellbutrin and Effexor. I had a terrible experience coming off of Effexor that resulted only in my going back on, then changing to Cymbalta. I feel, at this point, that the drugs are causing as many problems as the initial depression did, and am looking at the possibility of coming off but am living this year in rural Italy and need some real support in considering this possibility and its consequences.

Wow - so, my next question is: how did you get off the Prozac and what was that like?

Also, when you say you had rough days, what was rough like? Brain zaps? Negative thoughts? Fogginess? Diarrhea? Please share.
