Wow! That is unbelievable what you are having to do! I'm getting scared. My Doc just took me from 60 mg to 20 mg for 20 days then no more. What is your opinion on that pleas?

So, do you all think that my going from 90mg a week ago to zero today is too much? I'm having constant head zaps, and palpitations, but I am taking benedryl, drinkning protein drinks, and also taking oxycodone for another condition. I was hoping that if I tough this out, that I could just have a really rough weekend and be done with it. Now I'm not so sure, and I'm kind of scared. The thing is, I don't know if my fear is rational, or an effect of this crap. I hope someone is online again to see this.

Catherine, thank you for sharing your tapering schedule. I had a major meltdown tonight, and decided that I can't just go cold turkey. You don't know how much I appreciate having this information

My doctor told me to go from 90mg to 60mg immediately and said there "should be no problems with dropping 30 mg at a time." This, supposedly, is the usual practice recommended. However, even after one day of going from 90 to 60, I had what you call head zaps (brain shivers) and severe nausea. I immediately went back to the 90 and stayed there for a while until I got brave again. I just don't want to be on this drug any more because I feel so addicted!

So I had to devise my own method of tapering. This is what I'm trying and I welcome any comments! Week one (now) alternate 90 mg per day with 60 mg the next day. Week two, 2 days of 60 mg then a 90 day. Week three (hopefully) 60 mg per day. Then I stay on 60 mg per day for about 2 more weeks. Then repeat the same with 60 to 30, which would take another 5 weeks. Then ask for an Rx for 10's and work down to 20 and then 10 and then finally 0. That's the scariest part. I know it will take several months to go through this process.

Meanwhile, I am placing little notes to myself everywhere: Ignore what you're feeling, it's not true, it's just the withdrawal effecting you!

All the best,
-Mandy

From what I'm reading, alternating hasn't been effective for many, because you just keep the cycle going. I tried to go from 90 to zero in a week, and it was not pretty. I finally broke down on the 1st day with zero, and took 1/2 of a 30 mg. This continues now, and really sucked the first 3 days. Today, day 4 at around 15 mg, I actually don't feel horrid. I had the zaps pretty bad this morning, and then some moments of anxiety, but a friend that has panic attacks told me to get up and move around when I feel that senasation. I have done that, and it seems to really work. I also have posted elsewhere here that I am taking a super Omega supplement, and I really think that has helped today. Another thing is I've cut back on my caffeine, because I am finding that at the moment, I am super sensitive to it.

I don't recommend trying that fast taper, but in my non medical opinion, I would not alternate. If you haven't talked to your doctor about it, I would do so, and ask what the safest way for you would be.
