Hi. I get my meds from a federally-funded Indian Clinic & was getting Cymbalta free in the form of samples - for 9 years. Two weeks ago, my doc said he had to take me off because Cymbalta's patent is expiring and the samples will no longer be available, but it will take too long for the clinic to get the generic version. I haden't seen anyone talk about this yet, so I thought I let you know.

Eli Lilly's patent is up later this year and it will then be legal to for a US pharm company to sell generic cymbalta. Currently many companies, including severel American ones, have been selling generic cymbalta via the internet from overseas distributors. I remember seeing some of these as early as 2005. My pharmacist is expecting to see generic available to him around November of this year. I guess we will see.

The latest I read was that if the generic was from the USA they had to follow the same prodution protocol as laid out by the FDA. The problem is our pharmacies can buy their generics from internet or overses suppliers. I have read that those from Isreal are usually very good quality but those from the caribbean are of terrible quality (but a lot cheaper). if I get a generic version I always ask my pharmacy where they get it. And be careful, many times they will say 'Canada' but when they check the bottle they find the product was actually produced 'down south'. I have had good luck as long as I never get it from "the islands". Just my experience.
