Hey guys, newbie here, been on cymbalta for 5years 60mg went on 30mg for 2 months then stopped taking it altogether 5 days ago. Brain Zaps are terrible, sleep is bad I take alapam to help with that. I just want to stop taking medication I'm over it. Bad timing I just broke up with my partner, it's a tough time, I want to and will be strong. Went to the gym for the first time in 12months today. Anyway, any advice on what I can do for the brain zaps to stop, its causing me to be so unmotivated to go out and be around people because I can't handle loud places right now.

Welcome Des

Three things that have helped our members with brain zaps...

Meclizine (for dizziness)

Original Dramamine (travel sickness)

Mucinex D -a Cold and flu med.

All are over the counter meds.

The Mucinex D seems to be most effective. Be sure to get the specific product that is mentioned. For example there are varieties of Dramamine that are NOT marked "original Dramamine" and they do not work well.

BE SURE AND CHECK THAT THESE MEDS ARE COMPATABLE WITH OTHER MEDS YOU ARE TAKING.

Hello Des,

I remember that a member took Tylenol Cold and flu and said that it took care of the brain zaps.

I realize that you didn't ask for anything else. Cold turkey may be real hard and not recommended at all. So, pardon me for saying this, or giving advice, why not do it more smoothly and try the 20 mg and see how goes from there. Keep us informed if you feel like it.

Thank you kindly for your advice. I didn't think 20mg was available in Australia. I'll try to find cold and flu tablets her with similar ingredients. I havent heard of them before I'll look it up.

I am sure you can find an equivalent there. Good luck.

I have been realizing that since my accident in January 2017, my sinuses are worse than they have ever been. I know I hit the airbag pretty hard, and there was all kind of 'smoke' like stuff in the air afterwards. But shouldn't that only be effecting me for maybe a couple of months, not almost a year? I'm going to try the mucinex-d for the brain zaps. I hadn't heard of that.

You know that is a good question siggyd. I will check into that and find out what it is and what it does to a person.

I will ,let you know.

OK siggyd. Here is the situation with air bags. When they explode they release a cloud of either cornstarch or talcum powder into the air depending on the manufacturer. This material is used to keep the plastic air bag flexible. IF the airbag is released and is ruptured during the accident it releases sodium azide from the inside. Sodium azide is part of the explosive reaction that expands the airbags. There can be complications associated with each of these materials. I have provided links below to some major research articles that have been printed on this subject. Hopefully you will find some answers in these. If you have further questions on this issue please feel free to ask and I will be glad to look into it for you.
