Have been on Cymbalta for about 2.5 yrs now. I and my doctor are considering getting off of it and trying something different since I have always questioned Cymbalta's effectiveness. Have heard some horror stories about withdrawl.

While I was taking Cymbalta we were having marriage troubles. I have been Cymbalta free for 3 weeks now. Now a lot of suppressed feelings I had on Cymbalta are now really coming to the surface as well as the fact that I am probably still withdrawling. Do you think these negative, hopeless feelings are withdrawl or is this just ME without Cymbalta? If this is just me without Cymbalta I am in big frickin' trouble!!!!! My therapist, a PhD level psychologist, says i just need to wait it out and see where everything lands once I fully have Cymbalta out of my system! He also advised against making any life changing decisions until I road this thing out. How long does it take for Cymbalta to leave your system? Incidentally, I got off of Cymbalta because I believe it had caused me some other health issues and I didn't think it was really doing anything for me. I do now think it probably was doing a little something for me, but not enough to stay on it. How long does it take for Cymbalta to completely leave your system? That is my main question! If I go on like this my 23 year marriage is history!!!!!!

Dear Nervous:
What other health issues did cymbalta cause????
Try to remember how you were before taking cymbalta. If it is similar to what you are feeling now, it is JUST you without medication.
If what you are feeling is different from what you felt before taking cymbalta, then it is withdrawal.
From what Í´ve read on this site, 3 weeks is such a short time, to overcome withdrawal

I was diagnosed with Atrial Flutter less than a year after starting this med. At the time I was 45 yrs. old with NO family history of Atrial Flutter. Both parents are alive and well dad is nearly 78, my mom is 77 neither had this condition. It seem like more than coincidence that after taking this crap for less than a year I, a normal, healthy, relatively physically fit man develop this condition. Thankfully, a simple procedure seems to have corrected the condition. I never associated Cymbalta with Atrial Flutter or any Cardiac condition until I saw several Cardiac conditions as "rare but possible side affects" from Cymbalta use and withdrawl. This was on another page somewhere. I would have to hunt around to find it again. In regards to how I felt before taking Cymbalta; Iwas not like I am now. Shortly after starting Cymbalta I realized I was more irritable, and generally had a very low tolerance for people. I have been on other SSRI's and had never felt this way. Once again I did not associate it with Cymbalta, but just that I was getting older and crotchety. I would like to think I will get better as time goes on w/out the Cymbalta. My Doctor says I have many options. If possible though, I would like to by SSRI free!! By the way, I was on Cymbalta for less than 3 years. I am nearly 47 1/2 yrs old now, in case anyone is wondering. THANKS FOR READING MY POST, AND SHOWING INTEREST!

Dear Nervous:
I guess everybody is different, and medicines affect each one of us differently. I hope the Atrial Flutter gets solved soon and doesn´t bring you additional problems.

If you became irritable after starting the Cymbalta, then I would say you are just going through withdrawals. I was irritable before I started taking Cymbalta and it helped me to be more positive, upbeat, and happy. Now that I've started to wean off, I'm starting to get those feelings back and I'm very irritable right now. My husband weaned himself off of Paxil about a year go. He experienced severe anxiety and needed something to calm him down. Well the Paxil did just that, but it also took his drive for ANYTHING completely away. Our finances went down the toilet and it was a terrible time for our marriage. I was on Cymbalta at the time and was ready to get moving and working, but he wasn't. Now, he is off the Paxil, back to his "old" self, motivated and working. He went through withdrawals and was very irritable. Now that I'm trying to get off of Cymbalta, he knows what the withdrawal symptoms feel like. He has been fairly understanding. It has only been by the grace of God that we are still together. These drugs have done a number on our marriage! I say, give your mind and body more time to get rid of the drug and get back to normal. I don't know how long this drug stays in the body or how long it takes for someone to get "back to normal." I pray all gets better for you and your marriage. It's not easy, I know! Hang in there! Shelly
