I am reallly trying to get off Cymbalta, and not having, well I am having nightmares even with the decreased does, and clanging in my head.

I just found this site, and I really need help, I can't do this, I fear I willl never get off this brutal medication.

I am on day 4 of no Cymbalta after doing the "decrease slowly" method. I am miserable, the brain zaps are driving me crazy. I am an emotional wreck and scared to death. My body must have been a prisoner to this drug, and I didn't even know it. I supposably have the "best" psychologist in town, yet he never said a word about what would happen if I stopped taking Cymbalta.
Realistically, how long am I going to feel this way?

I am so glad I found this forum. It does give me a bit of hope.

Thank you,

Christina

Christina,
Sounds like you have just stopped the drug=cold turkey, and you can't do it
this way! Yes yoour going to feel like that, and even worse in a few more
days.

You ust slowly wean yourself off this drug, it is a long, slow process, but
one that takes away all the crap your going through right now.

What i am suggesting is that you take your normal does, and then start the
slow weaning process that is offered here.

60 mg = 540

What you do is just take away 10 bead every 2 weeks, see what you feel like,
and just let me know, and we can adjust it, by adding a few beads. Also
Prozac 20 mg does help with the withdrawls as it's a long acting drug, this
one isn't even if it claims to be!!! I had some of the same things happening to
me while I was on it. No I didn't need more, it's just a really screwed up drug
that's all.

Always here to help,
Debbie

Hi Christina

It's a bit hard to comment without having more info. What dose were you originally on and what was your taper schedule?

As for the psychologist, they are not trained in anything related to medication (I've done to honours level study in it) although they usually learn a fair bit from their clients. Ethically he/she would not be able to advise you on medication because it would be beyond his / her knowledge and expertise.

Hope that helps a little

I am currently on Cymbalta after many years of other drugs including Zoloft, Wellbutrin and Effexor. I had a terrible experience coming off of Effexor that resulted only in my going back on, then changing to Cymbalta. I feel, at this point, that the drugs are causing as many problems as the initial depression did, and am looking at the possibility of coming off but am living this year in rural Italy and need some real support in considering this possibility and its consequences.

Hi Christina -
Seems clear that "slowly" was like my doc's idea of slowly, not NurseDeborah's! Take her advice. I have also found help from a doctor who is also a homeopath and am using what seem to be very effective remedies to help me off. Good luck. Keep coming back.
