once upon a time, i was a very mentally stable woman until BAM!!!!! depression hit me like a ton of bricks. i was put cymbalta 30mg. had taken for a year. then i decided to have a baby and wean myself off of the drug.....OMG!!!!! doc suggested one pill every other day for a week, then two days etc...... i missed the first day and had the "brain zaps". that was the weirdest feeling in the world for me. well turns out, cymbalta only has a half life of like 12 hours....which means....when you don't take it in 12 hours, your body goes into shock.so docs went ahead and prescribed 20mg for 2 weeks. which worked fine. then every other day after that. the every other day still gave me the "zaps" but they were "mini zaps" that's what i called them. the key to my success was, i always waited until the mini zaps diminished to drop another day. but i'm not saying it was easy. it took me 3 months to wean completely. now i have a beautiful baby girl she's one year old and that's how long i've been back on cymbalta for postpartum.

Minimom,
Congrat's on the baby, how awesome!

I only wish you had found us before you were trying to wean so you would have
know that doc's know nothing about this drug, and how to get off of it.

What is taught here is a very slow daily use of this drug, decreasing by only
10 % of what ever dose your on, staying there 2 wekks, or at least until the
withdrawls have stopped from the first decrease. This can even be hard, but by
doing the skip a dose method is never a good idea with these meds.

The reason you always felt so awful on the day you didn't take it was due to the
fact the brain was being denied the drug, but once it get's it, the withdrawls
do become a bit less, only to take it away again the next day! This ia an addictive
drug to our brains, and that's why we have such brutal withdrawls.

I am just glad that you were able to get off, but why knowing the hell it is to get
off would you start it again?

Happy Motherhood,
Debbie

I am stopping 60 mg of Cymbalta cold turkey.

Posted 06 March 2010 - 04:34 PM

What should I do if I quit cold turkey 5 days ago? I am very sick today-- throwing up etc.
I was taking 60 mgs. for years, and realized I had that "Seratonin Syndrome" and needed to "grow up". I was ready to do that. However, I realize, now, I should not have quit so abruptly.

Thank you so much in advance.
Roby.
