I am on my 5th day of weaning myself from 60mg to 30mg. I took Lexapro for one year and did not like the weight gain and lack of feeling I experienced so my doctor put me on Cymbalta 60mg. I have been on this for 2 years and I gained more weight (40 pounds)but honestly did not care. I could get through a day at work but come home and just want to lay down. I am recovering from a total abdominal hysterectomy and decided I would take my last couple weeks at home to wean myself off because I knew it would be hell. If I even missed a dose or was late, I had extreme headaches, dizziness, tingling in my lips and found it hard to form words. I too had insomnia and night sweats while on cymbalta but blamed perimenopause for these symptoms. A blood test revealed that I was not menopausal. I ate constantly too, particularly carbs. My doctor told me to take 30mg for 2 weeks, then 30mg every other day for a week, then quit all together. I don't know if I will be able to do that and may cut my doses down myself as mentioned on this website. From what I know from myself and this site, your and my weight gain is normal for some of us as well as the other symptoms you mention. Wean off if you can, who knows how your body will handle the withdrawal symptoms. Read and listen to others on this site, they know from experience what you are going through. I will keep an eye on your posts. I just said a prayer for you. Hang in there. Bethhas anyone experience the symptoms of what I am going threw. I started taking cymbolta 6 months ago.
I have been unable to sleep. I have to take lunesta, and trazadone to help me sleep. Iam constantly hungry, and it gets worst late at night. Sometimes I wake up starving for carbs. I gain 30lb. I kind of feel more depressed now. 1 wk ago i told my dr. that I want to come off of this medication. so I decide to stop taking them.
The first day of missing the dose, I actually felt better and slept without taking any meds. The 2 night I my body started shaking, and trembling. I felt nauses, had diarrhea, was crying so much .i was unable to control my body and thoughts. so I took the cymbolta to help stop the width draw. I have never experience anything like this before. It reminds me of watching someone who is withdrawing from heroin, that is trying to kick the habit. Is this normal? I went to my dr,today and told him I want off of this medication. so now he has cut my dosage in have and is substituting laraspan.

Hi Beth,
I've just answered your other post.
I was also on Lexapro, and put on 12kg (nearly 30lbs) in less than six months, but it was because I was crazily hungry (feeling like I hadn't eaten all day) all the time. My GP thinks it must have been doing something to my glucose levels. More than that was the nightmares, which were much worse than Cymbalta ones. When I changed to Cymbalta, I just dropped 3kg in three weeks without trying. My appetite was back to normal. I wasn't on it for long, so don't know if I'd have had problems losing the rest of the weight (which I've now done since coming off Cymbalta). Cymbalta has a lot to answer for!
regards, Maureen.
