Started weaning off Cymbalta 60mg today to 30mg. Appreciate the support and insight into weaning that this site supplies.

Posted 05 April 2010 - 10:43 AM

I have been weaning from a 60mg dosage that I have been taking for 3 years. My journey began this way:
60mg to 30mg for one week
30 mg to 15-18mg one week
15mg-11mg one week
Today, 04/05/10 stopping all together

I am ready to stop the weaning because I am going back to work and won't be able to do the withdrawal symptoms at that time. I have until April 24th to get this out of my system and hopefully return to some state of normalcy. I have done fairly well with this weaning process with the occasional dizziness, brain zaps, a few crying spells, and some rapid sweating with anxiety provoking situations (especially where there is a lot of people). I am also recovering from a complete hysterectomy so sometimes I am not sure how much is C or hormones anyway....

This morning I am having my usual reminder that I have not taken C yet. Some dizziness with movement, slow motion eye movement. I am prepared to hunker down and get through this. Say a prayer for me and I will let you know how I progress. Soon to be again, happygirl a.k.a. Beth

Update: I stopped taking C last Monday. I was on 11mg prior to stopping and had been on that dosage for a week. My first week off C included having some brain zaps, achy left shoulder and occasional nausea. When I get tired my symptoms are more noticeable. I also had more symptoms upon rising in the morning too. Today, I got up and felt more normal than I have in 2 months. I only notice slight issues such as the weird feeling when looking quickly from side to side. I find that I cry much more easily now, but I don't think this is a bad thing. Having been numbed for 3 years, it feels good to feel again. I find episodes of the "Office" much funnier now too. During my weaning period, I have really watched comedy TV and movies. I laughed out loud Friday night watching the movie "Date Night". I highly recommend seeing it!

Another positive note, I am having a desire for intimacy that I have not had for 3 years as well. Sometimes you do not know how far gone you are until you start the trip back. I am grateful for having had something to help me when I needed it. However, I am glad to be off this medication because I don't feel it was helping or I needed it anymore. Working full time, going to Grad school full time, and being a wife and mother plus extreme PMS was a little more than I could handle.

I encourage those of you who are trying to wean to hang in there. There will be better days ahead. God bless each of you and I will keep checking the site. This site certainly helped me get through this process. I go back to work on April 27th and I have been so blessed to recover not only from my surgery, but also be able to get off cymbalta during my leave from work. Later, Happygirl
