Am trying to get off Cymbalta 30mg and wondering about brain zaps.

Posted 14 April 2010 - 01:41 AM

I have been off Cymbalta since before Easter. I slowly dropped my dose first then third them by yhe seventh day cold turkey! Going crazy her. Stomache distress, feet aching like nothing I hvae ever felt,temper...OMG! Brain zaps constantly muscle aches including joints. I was om Cymbalta for six years/ after reading that i only really needed six to eight weeks I asked my doc to take me off/she declined saying thought I needed it. Finally I told her I wanted out of the madness/ let me say that during the six years it was a great thing that happened for me. Coming off is a living hell! her last words to me were "Be good to your body" Brain zaps ~ brain zap I am seeing things that aren't there and feel like I am in a car wash knowing I am not moving but watching the world fly by. HELP ME!!

Coming off Cymbalta without side effects can take months and months, not days.

It took me 10 weeks to go from 20mg to zero.

You need to start taking it again (not necessarily the dose you were on before you started reducing) and wean off slowly.

regards, Maureen.

I agree with Maureen. It is far better to wean slowly than to go cold turkey. These drugs chemically alter the way your brain functions and it takes time for it to return to its pre med way of operating. A slow wean allows it to adjust slowly and gives you a better quality of life while in withdrawal.

Large doses of fish oil are said to be good for the brain zaps.

Cheers
