trying to wean off of cymbalta

I've been lurking on this forum. My sister went cold turkey and it was a living hell. So I'm trying to do a slower wean but the one I've read where you take out 10 capsules every 2 weeks would take me a year. I can't stand the thought of having to take that long. So i ran across a method used by user U-Need-Acetylcholine. I think that was his username. He said that he took out 7 granules every day along with a certain vitamin regimine and had hardly any withdrawal symptoms. Has anyone else tried this?

Whatever one individual did it pretty much irrelevant for you. You may be one who has little difficulty, or you may be one who has the greatest difficulty withdrawing.

The MAJOR problem with doing a daily reduction, is that for some of us, the withdrawal symptoms kick in fairly quickly, but for others it takes five or six days after a reduction. Many have tried and failed at this method. Until you know which one you are, your FIRST step should be to remove 10 beads and wait a week. If, IF you've had zero withdrawal symptoms, you could repeat the exercise, then decrease the time between each reduction.

You will soon find out:

1) If you're either a lucky one with few problems or an unlucky one with major problems.

2) How long it takes before the withdrawal effect hit you. Some can come from high doses down to 30mg or 20mg with no problems and then strike them.

3) How long it takes for any withdrawal effects (which should be mild at that level of reduction) to completely disappear. I did a slow, gradual wean from 20mg to zero over 10 weeks. The withdrawal effects were much milder this way; for me they happened immediately, and disappeared after about four days.

Taking this approach means you will only be on Cymbalta for the length of time it takes you to get off with minimal withdrawal effects. No point planning a faster withdrawal and suffering more symptoms.

The year will pass either way. Isn't it better to travel through the year and reach the end of it feeling great?

regards, Maureen.
