I am on day 4 of weaning off cymbalta.

hi..first..the ride will get better..i was also on effexor and found the w/d similar. I was on diabetes meds and had to double them over the course of a year on cymb. They messed with my weight, blood sugars and any 'fun' i remembered having was gone. The part of the warning 'don't drink alcohol because cymb. affects your liver freaked me out. Affects my liver? I went to pharm. and they said..most anti depressants are ok to have a few drinks with, but this one has been known to do damage liver with as little as a few drinks...yikes..what kind of sh it has this company decided to make a distribute around the world....i have been off it for 8 days now...and energy, zest for life and most of all hope has returned..but it still isn't a piece of cake. W\d's had me up most of the night with extremely hot...couldn't cool down and tried everything..brutal nightmares and pain all over. i was also taking cymb. for fibromyalgia and depression..i have to admit..for fibro it was a miracle drug..forgot how bad the pain was til it returned after quitting this drug. I am already started to lower diabetes med (metformin) and will keep close eye on bs.
This is a great site. I went pretty much cold turkey, but some other hear can guide you to count the damn bead which probably softens the w/ds. I do not advocate going off this too quick but for me..it was the best way.
God Speed my friend,
Keep us posted.
ps..journaling on here has really helped..kinda like being a pen pal.
take care,
Bon

In the future I would like to stop cymbalta

Dear Sandhead:
Yes, the beads in the 60mg and 30mg are the same. Unless they are produced in different manufacturers.
60mg has 540 beads, 30mg has 270 beads. That means 1 mg is equivalent to 9 beads.
The therapeutic dosage for cymbalta is 60mg, any further miligrams do not bring additional effects, but does bring side effects. (I was on 90mg for a period, and felt the same as 60mg with additional side effects).

You have been lucky, that you have been able to drop 50% each time. (most of us only drop a few miligrams). Even though you took cymbalta every other day alternating (60mg and 30mg)and it worked. I feel that it is better to take always the same amount. Dizziness, nausea and mood swings are withdrawal symptoms, I also have them.

Both 60 or 30mg work for counting beads. For me it has been easier to use 30mg for counting beads. First you have to determine how many miligrams you are going to take. So if you want to take 10mg you have to count 90 beads. As I told you each miligram is equivalent to 9 beads.

About SUGAR LEVEL it is so good that you ask!!! I developed insulin resistance and high glucose levels after 5 years of taking cymbalta + an antipsychotic. I do not have family history of diabetes, never had diabetes. Now I am taking glucose lowering meds. Haven´t checked my glucose levels since I started reducing the dosage. What I do recommend is a lot of exercise and healthy diet. Only take natural carbohydrates not processed ones. Please let me now about how your glucose levels develop.

Regards,
Cookie
