Hi Marianne,

funny, isn't it, how knowing we're not alone makes it so much easier to tolerate. I felt soooo much better just finding this site and discovering ways I could minimize the consequences of withdrawal.

By the way, a vanilla slice is thick, rich firm vanilla custard between two pieces of flaky pastry, with either icing or icing sugar on top. Deliciously decadent. It's so popular here that places will be 'known' for their vanilla slice.

regards, Maureen.

Maureen ---
That dessert sounds incredible!!
Send some to NY so we can enjoy it also.
I guess a Napolian is the closest pastry we have to a vanilla slice.
Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it!

I've got a better idea - send me a plane ticket and I'll personally bring some. Can't be too careful with these things. Wouldn't want to trust them to the freight companies. With me they're guaranteed to arrive in good shape. Which is more than I can say for the shape I'd be by the time I'd sampled them all to make sure they were safe to eat.

:)

Red3000 -

Great to hear --- hopefully you will be someone who has only slight side-effects from withdrawal. Keep up the good work!

In the future I would like to stop cymbalta

Morning!

My doctor was astonished at the severity of the withdrawal, but has been through a lot with me. She didn't doubt my word and was more than happy for me to follow what I'd seen recommended on here. She even had a look at the site herself to see what some people were going through.

Although she knows it's only a percentage (and who knows WHAT the percentage IS) of people who suffer badly, she won't be prescribing Cymbalta again.

Yes, you can use half the capsule with a bit of bread stuffed in each end to divide the dose.

You CAN take the beads without a capsule but you DO have to be careful. They're slow release beads, so if you're taking them on their own, just make sure you wash them down well.

Completely identify with the brain fog / spaciness etc.

regards, Maureen.

Dear Maureen:
Wow. Your doctor is really open and smart to take the time to look at the site and read real true stories of cymbalta users. That is the way of really knowing about a medicine, talking with real patients that have taken the drug not only relying on the “research” done before the product was launched.

To tell you the truth, cymbalta did help me in the worst moment of my life in which major depression struck not allowing me to function. Cymbalta helped me when no other medicine, alternative therapy worked. So it´s not that I want doctors to stop prescribing cymbalta. What I do think is fair, is that doctors are aware of side effects and withdrawal symptoms of cymbalta, so they can inform their patients before they start taking the pill. The patients should have the freedom to decide –knowing side effects and withdrawals- if they are willing to take the pill or not. And to measure the pros and cons. The thing is that none of us were informed when we started taking the pill.

I´m so lucky to have found this site and thank you all for your stories, they are very helpful.
By reading the w/d symptoms of cymbalta, has helped me to identify the symptoms during this weaning process. If I hadn´t read this site, maybe I would attribute this symptoms to other medicines I´m taking, or be scared that the initial illness (depression) is coming back, or that I´m getting a new illness. Now I know it´s just withdrawal. And it´s true that our brains are all different and we react differently when weaning, some adjust quicker or slower at lower doses. We don´t know what percentage of cymbalta users suffer from these withdrawal symptoms. But doctors knowing this w/d symptoms can prevent further suffering in their patients.

Regards,
Cookie

I started 21 Days ago weening myself off Cymbalta 60mg. Today I am down to 10mg (30 beads). I tried to skip a dose and and had nausea and terrible brain zaps so I am back on 10mg. Unfortunately the suicidal thoughts are back. I was free of those thoughts for the 3 yrs I was taking Cymbalta. Even though those thoughts are back so are the fun good thoughts. I think Cymbalta just made me numb and apathetic. Now I feel the highs and lows of life again. Not sure what to do about this medicine now. I know the bad thoughts won't pass and are probably back for good. I am amazed that Cymbalta was able to take that away.

Just thinking about you today, and hoping that you were able to wean off the Cymbalta and prevent those terrible thoughts and brain zaps.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Regards,
Marianne
