about to stop cymbalta afer 17 months for TOS

Posted 15 June 2010 - 08:57 AM

US Newbie living France... Two years ago I started having nerve problems, was sent to a neurologist, had scans, IRMs, EMGs, Evoked Potentials, etc. and ended up figuring out on my own that I had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome due to bad posture at work (I work on a computer a lot). Anyway, one thing led to another and I directed myself to several specialists who confirmed it. My MD suggested Cymbalta after Lyrica did nothing, and I had a hell of a time getting ON it (started with 30 mg and then onto 60 mg), I would call him to ask him to let me stop, because it was so weird. Blurry vision, nausea, insomnia, etc. plus the paid in my shoulder, elbow and ring and pinky fingers. Things are better and I have been in physical therapy as well etc. but I feel it's time to say goodbye to the Cymbalta. As it was so hard to get on, I figured I'd google withdrawal and boy, I shouldn't have  ! It's scaring me to read everyone's effects. My MD will take me off it at the end of month, by bringing me down to 30 I guess.. so I was never on it for depression per se but it seems to have helped the nerve pain. I'm just worried it's going to start again. Have been trying to lose weight for years and have put on about 15 pounds, not sure it's the Cymbalta but I have really tried and am losing nothing.

Hi,

most doctors are not very aware of the fact that some people have great difficulty getting off Cymbalta. LOTS of people have little difficulty - let's hope you're one of them.

Remember that the vast majority of people here have already suffered symptoms before finding the site, and that there are untold numbers out there who don't suffer like we have.

Going from 60 down to 30 is not a problem for many (not everyone, just many).

If, IF, you have withdrawal symptoms going from 60 to 30, DO NOT allow the doctor to take you off 30 by doing either every second day (doesn't work with Cymbalta) OR cold turkey.

And stay in touch here,

regards, Maureen.

Well I saw my Dr. and he suggested doing what you said NOT to do... He wants me to go to 30 mg daily for 3 weeks, then one 30. mg every other day, then every 2 days etc. then every three. I told him about reading all these posts on the forum and he was like, don't believe everything you read...Of course I know that people NOT encountering withdrawal symptoms are NOT going to post, but... anyway. I will try his way, as I'm not going to every other day right off... I guess I can open the pills myself and measure but...
