In the future I would like to stop cymbalta

Dear Mike:
Yes I know that feeling of "not trusting doctors anymore".....

It also happens to me, that I want to sleep too much.

Please do not be "scared to death" to come off cymbalta. By being scared you will only make things worse.
Remember everybody is different, our brains react differently so the process of quitting can be different from person to person, although there are common symptoms.

The important thing after reading the site, is that you know which are the common withdrawal symptoms, so you are prepared and you don´t get scared when they appear. For example when I started weaning I got the Flu, then I realized that it was not the flu, but that one of the withdrawals is -flu like symptoms-.

You are so lucky you are already on 40mgs. (I started weaning from 60mg).

It is your decision, to call or not your doctor or pharmacist.

On this site, there are lots of posts explaining how to wean. I learned through this site, that one can open the capsule and take beads out, to adjust dose.

The best way to wean, is making little drops and staying on that dose for a period of time.

When you get to lower doses, the drops should be smaller.

For example I weaned from 60mg to 20mg. At the beginning I dropped 7mg weekly and then 2,5mg weekly.

It is very important that you watch your nutrition (veggies, fruits, salmon) and that you exercise.

    weaning from cymbalta

Posted 13 July 2010 - 08:07 AM

I have been on 40 mgs of Cymbalta for about five months and it has done me no good. I do not trust doctors anymore in that they have put me on a merry-go-round of AD's in the last year and it has been hell. I am constantly tired and have no motivation except to sleep. But I am also scared to death of coming off of the Cymbalta because of all the horror withdrawal stories. I wish I had never even heard of the stuff much less taken it - what a mess scared to be on it but scared to get off. Do you think that maybe five months of a low dosage will make it easier to come off - I do not want to call my doctor but may call my pharmacist. What is the best way to wean off - I am tired of this living nightmare. I have missed a dosage before and had extreme headaches and brain zaps and tingling. I want off please let me know anything that might help.

Mike, Are you there? How is it going with you? Hope you are well. Tell us how you decided to proceed.
Deb
