    weining off cymbalta

Posted 17 July 2010 - 08:26 PM

Hi All!
My name is Kate. I am a 29 year old diagnosed with MDD, GAD, and various other GI issues. I have been having a lot of difficulty lately with my GI issues. My anxiety isn't presenting as normal, which led to my GI issues getting completely out of contol. I have been in treatment with my GI doctore and my PCP. I have beat the organic issues...I think. I have been dealing with symptoms which mimick Serotonin Syndrom. I told my doctor that I wanted to get of Cymbata, being that the side effects I was dealing iwth are all related to cymbalta.
Well, anyway, I have been weaning off for onlyh two days. I tried in the past and it was really bad... I don't even want to explain. But, after only tew days of being on 30 mg from only 60, I am nuts. Crying for no reason, yelling at my kiddo, headache and just feeling bad about myself.
Can anyone tell me what they have experienced and how long this weaning process takes?? I am tring to go back to work. I don't want to go back until I am totally weaned.
Thanks!!!

BTW.. there is a lot of dizziness. I am afraid to be alone with my son. This is bad, after only two days. How can I feel so bad after only two days?

It only takes 12 hours for cymbalta to clear your system. The neuroreceptors in your brain adapt to the full dose of cymbalta you were taking. When you taper or stop taking the medication cold turkey, clearance of the drug happens at a rate faster than the brain can adjust. This causes a variety of withdrawal effects, as the brain struggles to compensate.

Eli Lilly is "kind" enough to warn us not to stop taking the medication all at once, but doesn't specifically explain why. Generally, a tapering program of 10% at a time is best. 60 mg down to 30mg is too large a drop for your body to handle if you are experiencing difficult withdrawal symptoms. The cymbalta capsules are full of tiny beads. If you remove 10% and put the capsule back together you can more slowly wean down and hopefully experience less symptoms.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing please

Dear Kate:
I agree with Krissan. Dropping from 60mg straight to 30mg is a huge drop. Try weaning slowly. There are lots of pots explaining how. It took me 4 weeks to go down to 30mg from 60mg by doing small drops (7 to 8mg) each time.
