Recovering from withdrawals from Cymbalta 2010. Currently 2015

Posted 18 September 2010 - 02:54 PM

Hi,

I have been taking 30mg. of Cymbalta for about 6 months and have decided it's time to come off of them, for various reasons, i.e I felt better before I started taking them, and I feel generally much happier with the way my life is going.

As agreed by my previous doctor, I cut my dosage, by taking 30mg. every other day for 2 weeks, then every 3 days. The withdrawal symptoms are pretty horrific (brain shivers/agitation etc etc etc.).

Yesterday I consulted with a new doctor, who finally understood what I was talking about and offered excellent support. We decided that it was time to finally kick the cycle, by going cold turkey as weening doesn't seem to be working. I get to day 4 and crack as the symptoms are awful. Luckily, things at work are very quiet so I am able to take a couple of weeks off to go through the withdrawal period without any other commitments.

I've done a lot of research online and read that 5-HTP can be fairly beneficial when withdrawing from Cymbalta. I've not taken 30mg. of Cymbalta for almost 4 days and am starting to feel pretty dreadful. Is it too soon to start taking 50mg. of 5-HTP daily. I've read about serotonin syndrome when combining these meds. After 4 days without Cymbalta, one would assume that it's probably safe to start on the 5-HTP?

Anyone have any ideas about this?

Cheers

I don't know about HTP. I only know what works for me, and it really works.
How does a dr know if you have a chemical balance anyway, they never test the chamicals in your brain. It's just a bunch of words.

Here is what I take:
in the morning, I drink Apple Cider, fresh from the produce dept, or I get it right from a farm. This helps detoxify my body.
25mg of meclizine (you can buy over the counter for about $6.00. This helps with the dizzyness. Makes me a little tired in the morning, but I perk up in the afternoon.
12.5mg promethazine ( you need an RX for this, i paid $9.00) This helps with the nausea.
20mg Citalpram (to replace the Cymbalta) I paid $4.00 you need an RX for this.

At night I take : Vitamin E-400 (over the counter) and Fish Oil 1000mg (over the counter)this tells the brain to get rid of the cymbalta.
25mg of meclizine and 12.5mg of Promethazine

I am in day 36 since I started this journay from neverland.
My brain zaps stopped the day after I started this regiment.
Good luck and let me know how you are doing
Kathy

I'm suffering from dizziness, brain zaps, and other symptoms after withdrawal from Cymbalta

Hi, Dave,

It's been a few days so I trust you've made a decision of some sort. I've been using 5-HTP to help with withdrawal as per my doctor's advice. I still feel awful, but would probably feel even worse without it. I overlapped them as I was tapering.

Best,

Laurel
