Have been on Cymbalta for about 2.5 yrs now. I and my doctor are considering getting off of it and trying something different since I have always questioned Cymbalta's effectiveness. Have heard some horror stories about withdrawl.

This is the first time I have posted here. I have been on 60mg of Cymbalta for about 2.5 yrs. Recently I questioned whether or not it was really doing anything for me to my doctor. He asked if I wanted to up the dose to 80mg, so i tried 80 mg. I tried it for about 6 weeks. By the end of that 6 weeks I was more jittery and more anxious, so I knocked it off back down to 60mg. After about 2 weeks now I'm starting to feel like before. Here is the big issue. My doctor talked before about going on to something else since I really didn't feel like I was getting much out of the Cymbalta. Two years ago at the age of 45 I was diagnosed with Atrial Flutter, a relatively minor heart problem that was corrected with an out patient procedure. I am wondering now if it was caused by the Cymbalta. Although 2 Cardiologists were involved with my case neither ever attributed it to the Cymbalta. One did say he'd like to see me off all psych meds. I just recently saw on line that Cymbalta withdrawal can cause Congestive Heart failure, which is essentially a slow death sentence. I do have my trusty crutch Xanax. I'm sure this will help with straight anxiety but something like Heart Failure.....WOW! So, to sum it up I may be going completely off Cymbalta to go on to something else and I am fearful of the withdrawal. Not so much the jitteryness but something far more serious. if someone has insight into this please pass it on. PLEASE, real info only. A lot of scary stories and unfounded rumors will just send me in an anxiety attack and cause me to make unsound and irrational decisions. THANKS!

    coming off Cymbalta

Whatever you do, given your heart condition, don't quit cold turkey. I am on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin. I am on 150 mg of Well. and 120 mg of Cymbalta for over two years. 9 wks ago I fired my drs, dropped overnight to 60 mg of Cymbalta. Got a new dr and realized that after 45 yrs no one knows my health and my body like I do. I was on 60 mg for maybe 4 wks and the new dr who is a psych. and a neurologist has me weaning down and eventually off at 30 mg...its been 5 wks. Still at 150 of the Well. but I can't begin to tell you the hell I have been living in for 3 yrs since being on Cymbalta. I have only myself and its been frustrating and scary and now I am angry and just want it out of my system. But I have to do this the smart way, my body and organs have been stressed due to the meds and the complete detox will take close to a year. Baby steps, don't just quit....taper down a month at a time. Wish u well, let me know if I can help in any way...
