I am going down to six beads tonight. This morning I reduced my dosage of Prozac to 15mg, which I will also take tomorrow morning. If I continue to feel well, I will titrate off the Prozac in the next week. Stay tuned!! This has been a very success weaning process and I would recommend it to anybody who has had trouble getting off Cymbalta.

Hi, Linda

I think it's good you decided to take a 6 beads instead of stopping at 12. I hope you're still feeling good.

Karen

So far so good today, Karen. I have reduced the Prozac to 15mg from 20 and I also hope that isn't a mistake.

I will be putting some info on this site about the physical effects of these drugs on the brain and the body and why one should never go COLD turkey off of them.

Another short thread on this forum was started by a so-called psychotherapist who said that going cold turkey might be the way to go since moods would be stabilized faster. This was so an ignorant statement that might encourage those who don't have to go cold turkey to try it.

I am still doing fine. No brain zaps today. We'll see what tomorrow with no cymbalta in my body looks like!

I think I saw that, and you were the only one who replied. Are you doing ok today? You haven't had any brain zaps at all, have you? I had a dentist appt the day I took only 2 beads, and I thought I was going to jump out of my skin. That was day that when I left there I didn't know what September was when I saw it on a sign. I also didn't know what Target was. Scary.

Karen

I am perfectly fine today. No Cymbalta last night and only 10mg of Prozac today. Hurray!!!

Good for you! That's great!!! Doesn't it feel wonderful to be off that nasty stuff. Especially when you feel ok!

Karen

I took 10mg of Prozac today and have done fine today. I have decided to stay on the Prozac for a couple weeks because I do feel less patient that I did before I went off the Cymbalta. I've had some diarrhea for a couple days that certainly could be from being off the Cymbalta, but I do live in Mexico, and one never knows!

Hi, Linda

I'm glad it was a good day for you! It's probably a good idea to keep taking the Prozac for awhile.

Karen

Guess what!!!! I believe my dry, sore mouth is starting to heal! Two days off Cymbalta and I am now seeing the difference. Wow.

Doing fine without the Cymbalta. I did take 10mg of Prozac today. No more diarrhea today either.

I was surprised to discover that generic prozac in Mexico costs less than $10 for a month's supply of 20mg capsules.

That's great! How about your dry eyes? Can you tell any difference with that yet?

Karen

No, eyes are bad. We are in the dry season here and I am struggling still. And my mouth is about the same today as it was yesterday.

I see. I've never lived anywhere really dry. Hopefully your eyes will start feeling better tho just being off cymbalta. Still feeling good today?

Karen

Yes, I am feeling fine. I exercised last night. First time since I started going off the Cymbalta. Progress. BUT, I am having a lot of issues with wanting to eat.

I'm glad you're still feeling good. I don't think I started doing my walking again until after I had quit Cymbalta. I usually had a lightheaded feeling in the mornings, and that's when I prefer walking. Are your issues with wanting to eat wanting to eat all kinds of things like everything in sight or something like that? If so, I think other people have said that. I remember feeling that way, and I had to be careful when I went to the store and kept weighing my food. I remember weighing the same thing more than once - a different serving of it tho. ha! I don't weigh my fruit, but I've been eating a lot of apples. Our apple tree was overloaded this year with branches dragging on the ground. My husband gave them away at work, and I gave several bags of them to my parents. I got my two walks in this morning just before it started pouring down rain.

Karen

I just want to eat what is in front of me or what I can forage. I am finding food irresistible.

You must live in the Northwest? Wish it were raining here but we won't have appreciable rainfall again til next June.

Hi, Linda

I remember when I first got off cymbalta, I was like that. All I could think of was wanting to eat and what could I eat. It went away after awhile.

I'm right smack in the middle of the usa in ks.

I am doing okay today. Feeling tired and somewhat irritable but no other side effects. I am still on 10mg of Prozac in the morning.

Kansas -- I've driven through there many times and unlike many people I found it quite beautiful with the tall grasses.

    Just coming off cymbalta

Posted 28 October 2010 - 06:13 PM

Hi All,

Good luck with all your efforts.

I have been on 160mgs of cymbalta for at least two years. I have had a horrible time over that period, redundancy, two hospitalizations (3 months / 6 weeks) and disastrous deterioration in my marriage. Have had problems with alcohol but had stopped completely over a year and a half ago. I spent a year after coming out of hospital doing a first year in college (IT degree), but relationship was very strained, a lot to do with me being unresponsive and the much mentioned sexual indifference.

I had thought a few times that I would like to be off all drugs (also on 45 mgs mirap/mirtazapine/zispin; so many names for one drug).

Any way my last prescription (which was supposed to be dispensed weekly, but my knuckle-head GP wrote it up for it all to be dispensed at once ~ there is a slightly complicated system here in Ireland; because I am unemployed all my treatment and drugs are free, but my Mental Health Clinic write the scripts, which then are processed by the GP for collection at the pharmacy ~ it was being dispensed weekly because prior to my last hospitalization on 30th Aug. I had taken two weeks of sleeping tablets)as I was saying, with my last prescription I was left with only half the three weeks worth of cymbalta.

Back to the point; I ran out of cymbalta 2 or 3 days ago and have had an interesting time since then, which led me to search "cymbalta withdrawl" this evening.

I have gone from feeling really depressed, almost suicidal, yesterday to feeling quite good and positive today. Today I have also begun to feel some physical effects; lightheadedness, those brain zap things that people have mentioned (if that means ~ a sort of momentary jolt inside your head, as if you fell asleep and were suddenly awoken all within the space of half a second) as well as a slight balance problem. In mood terms I feel quite good today and actually managed to get a few things done today.

I had not decided to stop as such, but now I am beginning to think that I will just leave it, I am not due back to the Mental Health Clinic until next Tuesday, so I will just hang on until then and see what happens.

I have always had a sort of self punishment thing going on anyway so I will probably almost enjoy the discomfort anyway. In addition things cannot really get much worse (although, thankfully I do have my physical health, I'm 45 by the way)so what the hell. I think I will try to go drug-free for a while and see what happens.

Anyway, sorry I didn't mean to write so much , it just sort of spilled out.

Good Luck To All

Gabriel.

Welcome, Gabriel. Hi again, Karen. I am so sorry to have been missing in action for days. Bill, my husband, has been sick on and off for months and that has kept me busy along with getting a painting done for an art exhibition that starts today. I just turned in my painting this morning.

Let me catch you up: I got off all the meds, including Prozac, several days ago. Physically I seem to be doing ok, except for my sleep patterns. I wake up very early and can't get back to sleep. Today I woke up at four when the dogs were barking, couldn't sleep again, so got up and painted. I still have diarrhea on and off but not so bad. My mouth and eyes are the same. I just did blood tests to check thyroid levels and to see if it shows sjogrens. If not, I will have to have a biopsy of my lip to see the condition of my salivary glands, which is another test for sjogrens. Psychologically I am very scattered right now. I can't multitask like I used to be able to when I was on Cymbalta. I am also very irritable and lose my temper easily. I think these are the most notable changes, and perhaps I am better mentally than I was a week ago, less scattered, maybe.

Gabriel, I have never heard of anybody on that dosage of Cymbalta either. Going cold turkey causes minor epileptic types of seizures, which is what those brain zaps are (and yes you described them perfectly). It really can be very dangerous to go off like that. I have been doing a lot of research lately and am appalled that Cymbalta is even legal anywhere. How are you doing now? ( I am positive that the way I got off is the way to go, if you are going off.)

Hi Linda,

Thanks for your reply. I'm glad you are not feeling too bad.

I have to say that I have been feeling quite well, I've been getting a lot if things done that I have been procrastinating about. My thinking feels clearer which is nice.

I do have some physical effects like the "zaps", light-headedness and occasional mild headaches, but they are not bothering me really so I am going to stick it out until I see my doctor on Tuesday. I am now quite liking the idea of not being on any medication at all for a while, to try to take advantage of some of the "Talk therapy" I have had over the past couple of years, in a non-medicated state, if that makes sense.

Thanks again and the best of luck with your own efforts.

Kind regards,

Gabriel.

Hi, Linda
No need to apologize for life and your husband needing you. I was just a little worried you were feeling worse when I didn't see your here. I'm glad you were able to get some painting done and out to an art exhibit. Hope your blood work turns out ok and hope you're sleeping better. Take care!

Karen

I have started meditating and am doing better emotionally. Less irritable and angry. I am also back to exercising. My husband and I are meditating together and, of all things, talking together. I think my creativity is returning now that I am off the antidepressants.

How are you, Karen and Gabriel?

Hi, Linda
I'm so glad things are going ok for you!

I'm doing good. I'm still walking two times a day. I think a combination of the Vitamin B12 you suggested along with alpha lipoic acid and using this light relief thing I bought is helping my pain in my feet. Last Thursday was 9 weeks off Cymbalta for me. I still have short term memory problems and not being able to find the words sometimes when I'm trying to talk or not even knowing what something or someplace or someone is. Otherwise, I'm fine. I can't type worth a darn. This takes me forever.

Karen

My memory also isn't great. I am having to make a list of all I need to do. But that is also getting worse with age.
