    coming off cymbalta

I have come down from 120 ml's to none on less than 3 weeks, with a three day gap before I start on Venlefaxine tomorrow. What a nightmare! I am barely functioning here, dizzy, vertigo, feel sick, headaches even my face feels weird, and that's just a few of the physical symptoms. That's all I can type right now, but glad i have found this site!

Dear kellylight:
I am not a doctor, just someone who has been on this site for a while. From what I´ve read here and through my own experience, a good way to diminish withdrawal symptoms is weaning very slowly by doing very small drops.
I have weaned from 60mg to 12mg in 18 weeks. I´ve had several symptoms but I have been able to function. I can´t imagine what it would be like to come down from 120 to none in just 3 weeks.

Have you talked to your doctor about your symptoms??? what did he/she suggest???? I hope the new drug counteracts these symptoms you are having.

Have you made your research on Venlefaxine??? (side and withdrawal effects)??? Why are you changing meds?

Hello,
You will make it through this. Many of us have suffered all or some of these symptoms. We have tried lots of things that make them not as bad to deal with.
I am on day 37 of my visit to hell. I went from 60mgs to every other day for 1 week and then cold turkey.
Here is what I took:

in the morning, I drink Apple Cider, fresh from the produce dept, or I get it right from a farm. This helps detoxify my body.
25mg of meclizine (you can buy over the counter for about $6.00. This helps with the dizzyness. Makes me a little tired in the morning, but I perk up in the afternoon.
12.5mg promethazine ( you need an RX for this, i paid $9.00) This helps with the nausea.
20mg Citalpram (to replace the Cymbalta) I paid $4.00 at Walmart pharmacy. you need an RX for this.

At night I took : Vitamin E-400 (over the counter) and Fish Oil 1000mg (over the counter)this tells the brain to get rid of the cymbalta.
25mg of meclizine and 12.5mg of Promethazine

I can say that I have no Zaps since going on this regiment. I stopped taking the meclizine and promethazine for about 5 days now. I am not having any nausea or dizzyness.
You do not have to suffer as much and it wwill be more bearable for you while you detox. None of us should have had to suffer this sickness and pain.
I hope this helps you.
Believe , Kathy

I am changing meds as the duloxtine didn't seem to be working anymore, I am doing this with my doctor, mind you he has had to make these decisions as my Psychiatrist has been very unforthcoming. All she said when my doc eventually managed to get hold of her ( or one of her team? secretary? whatever),was that i should Wean off the duloxetine That is dropping from 120 ml to 90 ml for a week then to 60ml for a week etc in order to start a different AD ( but not telling my doc what AD to start!!!!)So I was on the 60 for nearly a week, then ( my doctor trying and failing to get any more info from Pdoc and basically having to take matters over) 30 mls for a couple of days then nil for three days. I am meant to be starting the venlafaxine today but I have huge concerns about this, I have been on it before and can't remember why I came off it, I have been reading up on it and it has a very similar track record to cymbalta.

I can't even walk my daughter to school because of this, a friend had to take her. I am really struggling here, I can't cope with this.

Dear Kellylight:
Reading your story it seems to me that you could evaluate these 2 options (I am not a doctor though!)
1. Take the new medication venlafaxine and see if it counteracts cymbalta withdrawal. Or
2. Go back to a certain dose of cymbalta in which you feel well and start weaning from there. I wouldn´t go back to 120mg but maybe 60mg which is the therapeutic dose.

Did you start venlafaxine today??? How did it go?

hugs

Thanks for the support guys, it's a lifeline. We are staying with friends now, as I couldn't carry on the way I was. It's a very peaceful place, a farm coplete with pigs, sheep, cows, dog and cuddly cat's! My daughter loves it. So that has taken some of the pressure off. Starte the venlefaxine 2 nights ago, still feeling awful and emotionally so up and down. Last night was very black for a while and I am not talking about thye sky. Sorry about thye spelling today its a bit like me.

Dear Kellylight:
After dark days always comes sunny days. During my weaning I´ve had horrible days, but then there is always a calm moment.
This shall pass..........
