any guidance on detox - experienceing hell

Posted 18 October 2010 - 03:31 PM

Thank you, thank you for this forum. I am so glad to know I am not losing my mind.

After being on Cymbalta 60mg for 3 months for migranes with no relief, I decided to drop it.
Like so many of you, I have gone from 60mg every day > 60 mg every other day > 30 mg every day > and now 30 mg every other day. I too thought I was coming down with the flu. Until tbhe vertigo started...

I am now on day three with extreme vertigo, night sweats, extreme weakness, fever, aches and paines, spaciness, and upset stomach. My doctor thinks I am crazy and won't do anythng but give me more Cymbalta!

From the trenches - what is your advise:
Should I do to 20 mg OR should I cut this now?
If I nip it now, what can I expect to experience? How long will this hell last? I know everyone is differnt, but I would so apprecaite some feedback.

Hi Laurel,

Not a doctor here , but I have weaned myself off of 50 mgs of Cymbalta, over a five month period. No, I would not drop down to nothing. Taking Cymbalta every other day is recommended by alot of doctors, but appears to be the worst thing you can do to increase withdrawl problems. Unfortunaetly, you will have to do some backtracking, and slow down the weaning process if you want to feel some relief. Good Luck.....and keep reading the information on this sight.

Hi Laurel, sorry that you dr. wasn't supportive of your wish to get off cymbalta. Mine was not either.Good thing there are sites like this . I'm not a professional but using my own experience I would go to the 20 mg for a week and then open capsules and divide beads to taper slowly for a few more days then quit. You have not been on this med for a long time so I hope it will be a bit more tolerable to discontinue. I think this is my 5 or 6th day totally off after the weaning process and I still have the hot flashes/ sweats all day and night. The nausea is not as bad but do have difficulty with anger now. THis morning I was so annoyed that my hair was hanging in my eyes, felt like chopping it off with the scizzors.Twisted the stick on my wood blinds so hard when trying to open them this am.I cracked it off and thru the stick thingy across the room...too funny! This all takes time so hang in there. I'm not sure how long this lasts, we can just take a day at a time.I see people are having alot of the same withdrawl side effects.Have you been taking the fish oils- 1000mg I take 2x daily. b-complex, calcium citrate/ magnesium, push fluids, flax seed oil or meal. I am glad that I am not working now although we can't afford to really be on one income, no insurance now so this is the first opportunity for me to get off all meds. The amount of debt we have on our credit cards are mostly for all MY meds over the years!Of course Dr's always prescribe the newest meds that they just got in from the latest pharmaceutical sales reps! Good luck Laurel , keep in touch.

I want off CYMBALTA yesterday but am doing a slow withdraw

Posted 24 October 2010 - 12:59 PM

I think that I would go to the 20 mg ones but take them every day. If you take them every other day you are going cold turkey every other day and then taking it again and then cold turkey again. It seems to me this would be very hard on your body.
I am currently down to 8mg. I have been opening the capsule and weighing my pills as I taper. (scale was $30 from amazon) I taper a tiny amount every day that adds up to about 10% of the 60 mg per week. I take whey protein, fish oils, amino acids, Vitamin D3, magnesium, tart cherry extract and B complex.
Hope you find some useful info from the posts here.

One other thing - as I remove beads I keep them and then put them in new gel caps that I have weighed and recalculated etc. I haven't had to buy cymbalta for a couple of months. Just helps with costs as I am pumping in a fortune in supplements right now. I look like a drug dealer busy weighing and repackaging it. LOL It kind of cracks me up since I have never used drugs or alcohol. Just crazy prescription drugs and here I am struggling to get off them.
Best wishes everyone,
Elaine
